The Steelers are idiots for not signing Sam.

In 2024 he only went 14 and 3 as the starter on the Vikings

In 2025 he went 14 and 3 on Seattle and just won the Super Bowl.

He is in his prime at age 27 and in my opinion a top 8 NFL QB. The man is very good, accurate, and has a top arm that forces the defense to defend the field deep and over the middle. He is tough and has good but not great QB smarts.

The stench of Mike Tomlin liking Fields is a factor. He was his man.

Khan being the GM has a stain on his record too.

We could have had him and apparently Darnold liked us too, but ....

We shall see how Sam does going forward. Reminds me of Neil O'Donnell except Sam won the SB. Neil had a few good years with a decent supporting cast.

Super Bowl 60 did not feature the best QB's in the NFL.

IMO Denver was best team in AFC and would have made for a better SB. Hindsight 20/20. Rodgers with another good receiver could have taken us to the SB.

Darnold is better than O'Donnell who is at his best as a good game mager / low risk type of QB . He was a little bit better than average starting QB as a passer. I think the Steelers made a mistake letting him go as he was peaking. But he signed with the Jets in free agency and we went with Stewart at QB. Water under the bridge and over tha dam stuff. We were close to winning the Super Bowl with Neil and lost to a dynasty level Cowboys team, making them sweat it out. We had the ball driving for the lead with 5 minutes to go in the game, and then that unfortunate happing. Either Hastings ran the wrong way or Neil just threw it to a wide open to the Dallas DB, Larry Brown.

    Emmit Smith was shut down.

    Nope

You just got a boner watching the Super Bowl where he was pretty mediocre

But I looked and you got attention

Darnold is a very good QB, but he's also the perfect example of how important it is to be in a good situation for a QB. He was in an awful situation with the Jets and Panthers in his first five seasons, and it almost ruined his career. But he's been in a much better situation since 2024, winning 14 games in each of those seasons, and now he's a Super Bowl champion.

Although the Steelers' situation in 2025 wasn't as bad as the Jets' dumpster fire situation in the last 10 years, it was still a bad situation because of weak coaching that was afraid to take risks and the fact that our receiver core was atrocious. I don't think Darnold would have signed with us even with a similar contract to the one Seattle offered... Darnold knows how important this is to be in a good situation

This is exactly it. Sam is in a great situation with the Seahawks dominant at both lines of scrimmage, a great defence and the best separator in rhe NFL to throw to

He wouldn’t have had any of that with the Steelers

Signing Darnold would have wasted a lot of the cap we will now have in FA

Who gives a **** what he looks like moving forward. He just won the SB. I'd trade anything for a SB win.

i see that a team can win with defense, namely the front and LB'ers, and a good running game. darnold looked pretty pedestrian without his best WR on the field. both places he last played for had top WR's.

You can't just put a bunch of names on a roster and go win a Super Bowl. You have to build a team.

I already knew I didn't want Stefon Diggs on my team. Now, I know I don't want Josh Jobe either. 2 very good NFL players, but after watching them fight like they did, not team guys.

I'm not saying Darnold is not a team guy. Just giving an example of trying to just put names on a roster. Many times when teams let good players walk into free agency, they come with warts and baggage.

For the 2025 season and subsequent post-season, would Sam Darnold have taken THIS Steelers team further than Aaron Rodgers was able to? What would THAT Seahawks team have looked like with Aaron Rodgers instead of Sam Darnold?

I don't think it was a QB issue.

Because even if Darnold signed with the Steelers they weren't going to win the Super Bowl this season.

Just stop with nonsense acting like Darnold would've been as good with the Steelers in Arthur Smith's crappy offense.

Sam Darnold would have been wasted here.

Seattle built a team that is solid in all three phases. I'm not taking anything away from Sam, but he was the perfect game manager for the Seahawks.

He was the perfect fit for the Seahawks. Had he ended up in Pittsburgh the Steelers would have still been a 10-7 football team. Maybe not even.

Fans just forget about that dominating Seahawks defense their WR1 won OPOY, and they have a good RB duo and a HC good at calling a defense.

Darnold has learned how to be successful in a specific type of offense. An offensive system that Seattle runs and Pittsburgh doesn’t.

I don’t think Darnold was ever a realistic candidate to sign for any team that ran a system other than what he’s comfortable playing within.

The New York Jets have no business even being able to draft a QB. They are QB killers.
Darnold went to the worst scenario possible. Tom Brady would have failed as a Jet.
I am glad Darnold got some redemption.

This was a terrible Super Bowl, and the bad QB play was just a part of it.

Drake Maye will be better but this time out, the game was just too much for him.
He has a good coach, and a good team around him. Chances are good we see him in another Super Bowl some time.

Sam Darnold has the same conditions. He played well enough.
I'm not as confident about seeing him in another one, maybe.

But I am not sure I've seen a stinker Bowl like this since the Ravens/Giants fiasco.

The Seahawks' offensive line is not dominant. They were a sieve last night.

I could tell Seahawks were championship caliber after week 2 in the season. They handed Steelers their a$$es. That was a beatdown... even if Steelers had scored instead of Austin/Frieiermuth debacle in the end zone. Clearly the Seahawks were a good team and Steelers were average at best. Coaching for Seahawks was so far superior to Steelers, it was kinda sad to watch.

It was fun to watch those two defense slug it out until the Seahawks pulled away late. The offenses weren't pretty, but that doesn't make it a bad game.

Whatever Bud. Darold was out there as a free agent and Tomlin and his staff and Khan blew it. We needed a QB then. Badly...

Yes, I have seen Darnold play in many games on the Vikings and Seahawks. He played very well vs. throwing for 295 yards and two scores vs. the Steelers.

If you can remember the game in 2025...

I see you're drawn to my posts like a moth is to a flame.

Thank you I guess for bumping this thread and adding comic relief at your own expense to the board. If I ever find myself in a Mexican jail, I know who to call.

I thought it was a good game too. I didn't turn it off until Seattle was up 3 scores.
