[h=2]Good hands? Hard to find[/h]As I make my way across the country, and often have four or five hours to contemplate the state of the NFL in a rental car, something has struck me: Where the hell have all of the pass catchers gone?
Looking at rosters and watching practices and talking to decision-makers from city to city, I found myself leaving a camp time and time again generally underwhelmed by the collection of receivers and tight ends on display. And, time and time again, I had a general manager or scout tell me they can't wait for the first cutdown date so they can bring in some receivers or tight ends from someone else's camp and see if they look any better in their team's uniform.
I guess all things are cyclical, but man, I'm in San Francisco a few weeks back and they're auditioning a half-dozen guys in the return game and taking a chance on Austin Collie. I'm in Baltimore last weekend and the other participant in the Super Bowl is signing Brandon Stokley and Dallas Clark. Kansas City is desperate for more pass catchers. The Patriotsdon't have a receiver on the roster outside of Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman anyone has ever heard of (and I get it, with Tom Brady, you don't need it). The Jets are praying guys like Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow might possibly stay relatively healthy.

The Raiders and Browns badlyneed skill players; the Eagles have lost a bunch of pass catchers to ACLs already. The Chargers can't keep any receivers healthy it seems. Even the Seahawks, who seemed overloaded at one point, now are without Percy Harvin -- and Sidney Rice is always an injury risk as well. Ditto for Green Bay, which seemed in great shape at receiver before injuries started mounting. There is going to be real demand for guys at this position, as well as offensive line, once teams start releasing players.

And the rare team that might have a surplus of serviceable receivers, I believe, will be able to get decent value in trade. I could see the Steelers shopping Jerricho Cotchery, for instance, and finding a better market than they may have anticipated. The free-agent market has been picked apart, and there isn't much there. TheBengals, once some of their receivers get over nagging injuries, could be in a position of strength at receiver and tight end as well.

Interesting. If they feel that JD Woods or Justin Brown can take Cotchery's spot without an issue then I am all for it. A lot also depends on what kind of value we would get for him. Probably a 5th round pick?

Yeah brown, woods, or moye will be plucked the second we cut them. I'm all for trading cotch hell reading that article we could probably get a 4th for him. Maybe package him and moye together and get a third.

i would rather see them keep Moye over Gilreath. Moye can make some plays and Gilreath although not given many chances, he hasnt made the most of the ones hes gotten.

Gilreath is gone I wouldn't be surprised if he was part of the first cuts.

Sanders is the better trade bait. He is a viable WR who would be wanted by other NFL teams due to his youth and skillset. He is also in a final year contract making it easier for another team to sign him for more than 1 year at their terms.

For us we'd still have AB, Cotchery and Wheaton as our main corp of WR receiving snaps and I like both Brown and Woods.

If they were going to trade Sanders I don't think they would have matched the pats offer. I think it would take at least a 2nd for a team to get him off of us and I don't see a team giving up a second for him.

Cotchery is also in the final year of his contract. Besides, other than the young recievers, Sanders is the only one amoung the others (A.Brown & Cotchery) that has any receptions so far in preseason action.

Not to mention, that Ben would likely (and probably rightfully so) pitch a *****. ;)

I don't think Ben and cotch are on that level. I don't get all the love for him. Honestly what has he done to deserve it.

I'm not saying they are gonna trade Sanders. They obviously didn't want to lose him and are probably trying to sign him to a multiyear deal.

Scruffy- To me Cotchery is a vet and every year there's vets to be signed. Rarely does a team trade for a 2nd string aging vet.

I disagree. I don't think he would make a good trade candidate because he is almost certainly going to test the waters next year. Doubtful a team would fork over enough now to sway him from becoming a FA.

With Brandon Lloyd and other vets not able to find jobs, I don't think anyone would trade for Cotch

Now why did ya have to go and ruin the discussion. LOL :lolol:

Maybe one of our "trading partners" (Buffalo or Arizona) might have a halfways decent O-Lineman or Tight End they'd being willin to swap?

The logic of moving Cotch to save money I don't like. You move him for one reason and one reason only....After 4 preseason games and camp you believe 2 things:

    1. That 2 of Woods, J. Brown, and Moye are ready to be on the big squad and that the other you believe you can get to the PS.

    2. That they can fill the role or Wheaton can right now that of Cotchery which is 3rd down possession receiver.

Lastly, I think this decision must come down to what the new WR coach wants. Does he want a bunch of young guys to mold, or does he want a vet in there?

We'd get a 6th or 7th round conditional draft pick for Cotchery if we could find a trading partner.

Trade Cotchery for Leonard Pope straight up.

At best. Even if a team decided it needed a #5 WR, wouldn't they look at guys that get released in the next few weeks first? You give up nothing to get them and you pay them the league minimum. One of those guys might get you the one catch per game Cotchery does.

I'm admitedly slow sometimes, but I finally get it ... Cotchery is presently listed as either our #3 or #4 receiver to increase his "trade value". :lolol:

Big fan of Cotch last season . Not so much now . I think we have enough talent on this team even without Plax.

I will snap if I hear another YMC . That is total BS.

There is young money and then stupid money and then walk money and thats what Wallace has now.

We have what is necessary to get the job done.

    Lets do this

IMO we could have and should have gotten A. Brown cheaper.

Now one other thing to keep in mind ...
In addition to the obvious potential of J.Brown, JD.Woods, and D.Moye, is the fact that the Steelers are their "local" team and we could probably get a 2nd contract discount more than they would give any anyone else. That's something that shouldn't be totally ignored if they continue to impress as they have been.

Correct answer, especially if the Steelers are not feeling it with
    Manny's agent.
