whimper to guard

I read whimper has been moved to LG and long would see action at tackle this week. it said they wanted to see whimper and batiste last week at the tackle spots.

that means he jumped golic jr. and hubbard at guard. whimper has never played guard in the league. head scratcher for me. does it seem like whimper is going to be the 8th lineman no matter what? Cheadle has a significant hamstring injury. i'm not sure why some moves haven't been made so far.

 

I sure in the hell hope not. I'm hoping someone good gets cut at the end of the preseason

 

They're just doing the usual trying guys at a lot of positions. Batiste was playing some G in camp too even. And of course a vet is going to be ahead of rookies...thats no huge surprise there. Anyways...I'm off to camp...

It's a mystery to me they even picked him up. I hope he proves me wrong. I really like Golic Jr. although he has some growing to do.

 

golic went more to guard when enbernate went down. whimper was just moved there. one guy that hasn't moved from RT is beachum.

 

is that wrong?

 

The experiment of Whimper at LG I think is an act of desperation. The FO is looking at our Oline and going....Dang, we just don't have an 8th guy. So the statement is made...you think Whimper might be able to hold down a guard spot? I don't know, let's try it!

I hope somebody does something really stupid and we can find a guy on the waiver wire.

 

The thing that pisses me off the most about the guard situation is they could have signed Caldwell(Texans), but chose to roll the dice with a bunch of waiver wire fodder. Caldwell will never be mistaken for Faneca, but if nothing else we would have had a solid backup in either Foster or Caldwell. The Bills grabbed him for 1 year at $715,000. He's cheap, reasonably skilled and has played all 3 interior ol positions.

I hadn't seen much of this weeks camp rumblings from monday.

they had said golic was getting his reps at guard back when embernate went down instead of RT as he had earlier. he didn't play in the game.

beachum hadn't been playing center since earlier in camp. beachum was still being looked at as a possible RT over gilbert. he played there in the game.

malecki was getting reps at both spots in camp and the game.

whimper didn't look great at LT and he was going to be tried at LG since Cheadle went down. Cheadle was getting reps at center and guard last week.

hubbard had been getting reps at LG and played there in the last game.

long is to get some game play Monday.

the trouble is urbik doesn't play it "very well". big difference between DD and urbik. our front office and scouting department really sucks when it comes to o-linemen. why i'm not sure, it was always a strength of the team. since Colbert got here we have not been very good at it and the guys we keep around are not very good to start with. past the first round it's pretty iffy at best. same with TE's it seems.
