It was already mentioned by jeh, but it is likely a contingency basis agreement. I’ve encountered this on different occasions through the years.

Attorney will slow walk the case until the organization (or in this case DK pays to settle). In my world, the attorneys are trying to get the insurance company to just pay out a nuisance claim.

I think DK should obviously have not gone over, nor reacted the way he did once standing in front of the fan.

in the next breath, there is clearly some kind of history there. As has been noted, the fan was saying “that was the goal” after the altercation happened. That in of itself is an admission of being an antagonist.
