TJ Watt is a starter. Those are guys are not. Where is KJ Henry, I think he could be a starter type?

 

Well since 3 of them are hurt all the time.

OMG. Because a guy not only missed games because he had a needle through his lung, but had a so called down year proves Tomlin, and Austin didn't know what they were doing is freaking laughable. So I guess all the years that Watt, the 7th pass rushers taken in the draft was awesome doesn't count.

 

the needle incident occurred second week of December, well into the season, Watt had been playing subpar since last season. Its age most likely, but if he does have a comeback year that definitely does not make Tomlin and Austin look good.

 

It's age but also that teams have adjusted their defense to handle him without too much effort. His pressure rate last season was the lowest of his career (excl. his injured 2022 season). And the idea that the Steelers don't win when he is not playing was broken this season.

It's not DEFCON1 or 2 yet but maybe flashing DEFCON3.

 

herbig is under contract this year. can he stay on the field? he's been hurt every year at some point. play lights out this year and get a new contract next year. at that point we can do something with highsmith that is more team and cap friendly.

 

I don't think he is done being a good player, but expecting a return to elite-level performance would be foolish.

 

Perhaps, but i always felt Austin and Tomlin didnt effectively use Watt (no stunts to the inside, not moving him around, just relying purely on his athleticism). most of these edge rushers production declines when they hit their 30’s anyway. There are exceptions, like Kevin Greene, but most of them decline. And also Greene didnt have the injury history TJ has, that has to play a role also.

 

maybe if the new DC can get creative with Watt, stunts, moving him around a bit…

 

Why, because You have some hard@n against Tomlin, and Austin???
So let me get you logic here.
Because a guy had a down year , it was because of coaches you dislike, but all of his great years under those coaches somehow don't count??????????
Make that $hit make even a little sense.

The stunts, and move , and drop Watt into coverage almost every game.

I tell You what. Just for a small example, watch the last 3 games Watt played, hell watch any game this year.
Problem is many of You watch the ball, and see nothing else, and I'm not trying to be mean here, but for you to say that, clearly shows you aren't seeing what You think you are.

I don't have to show the proof, if it's raining outside, and I know it's raining outside, I don't have to prove it. Anyone that says they never ran stunts with Watt this year proves they either don't know what a stunts is, or they clearly don't see it. Like I said , You want me to show proof, bet me real money, because many of the videos won't let you show here, so I will have to waste my time making screen shots, which by the way I did earlier this year showing many of the different things Watt did. You do know that anyone on this board that knows what a stunt is knows that Watt not was used that way, he was used that way almost every game, including the last game we played.

Damn good album, but there are two that are better.

 

KJ Henry has been a bench warmer on 6 teams he is not starter material

He has less potential to be a starter than Rudolph

 

I’ll back off a bit on TJ not moving around the line or trying to stunt to the inside, he apparently has some but i haven’t caught it, in any case whatever Austin and Tomlin did, it hasnt worked, so if the new DC can figure something out, it would show they know what their doing and maybe our old coaches were ‘more limited’.

Specially last year, our D lived and died with TJ. this year we still have had trouble generating consistent pass pressure. ever since 2023, TJ’s last impactful year, pass rush has been inconsistent.

again, to be fair, re TJ, its mostly just age
