I think you're right. I haven't watched as many games as some on here, but from what I have seen, I'll take Howard with a year under Rodgers than anybody coming out this year other than Mendoza. Also, I've read they have a good relationship. Another year under Rodgers, I could see it working.

There’s no doubt about that aspect of his game, the mental fortitude is there.

Would not hurt. Also need an OL like OSU has that season.

That PR line from Mcarthy talking about Howard that the team threw out there, and the mouthpieces have been running with, has been genius because so many people have bought into it, they've flipped the narrative with one little soundbite.

I mean, the Steelers thought so much of him (for a team desperate for a QB) that they waited until the 6th round to draft him.

    Help it make sense.

It’s very important how he ended his college career. After an overall dismal team showing (himself included) vs. Michigan in their big rivalry game, he led his team to a dominant run through the CFP. Yes, he had enormous talent around him, but he saved his best for the biggest stage and did it right after what was probably the most disappointing loss for OSU and himself in a while.

There are/were plenty of flaws in his game to be fixed, and a 6th round pick is a lottery ticket. However, I’ll take a chance on a guy with the mental makeup and physical QB traits ranging from average to good vs. a physical monster who has shown limited ability to actually play QB (looking at you Anthony Richardson). This is the kind of guy who can make the most of the opportunity. And all I’m arguing for is to give him a chance to earn the keys, not have the keys be given to him.

But they weren't desperate that draft. They had ARod on the hook. I'm not saying that got exactly the guy they wanted, but they had no reason to reach for a QB either. The thing with Howard is he is still unknown. You can be both hopeful and skeptical at the same time.

Elevate Howard to number 2 if he deserves it. Put hm behind a veteran Qb, this may be the year to do it. The success rate for a Qb taken within rounds 4 and below has got to be so low its ridiculous though. I find it hard to believe that a team that screwed up on the Pickett selection suddenly is better than most of the rest of the league at finding a starting Qb in the 6th round. But its looking like well find out for sure this coming season.

i wonder when the last time was that a 6th round steelers Qb got this much buzz.

its not only toughness that counts, the guy needs the right teacher, hard work, and he needs to figure defenses out. I like to bring up Bubby Brister, similar college accomplishments and one of the toughest, hardest working Qb’s around at the time, but he still struggled on the field and never quite got it. And he was taken in the 3rd round.

I remember it like yesterday. I was at the bar pretty much by myself at the Sandbar and Grill in Hatteras NC drinking a beer and was tickled pink they drafted him.

He didn't disappoint. His first year was lights out and historic.

The number one trait he had issues picked up on early was he was a winner. It helps to be 6'5 240lb that can run and throw.

Looks a lot like Howard who i am optimistic with.

I wonder if McCarthy will draft another young QB this year to compete with his background.

First trait I picked up on Ben was he had a 6 sense knowing defenders were behind him without ever turning or panicking .
    Casually step up into pocket

Not only that, he was big and strong, not too many defenders brought him down on the first try.

well which is it? no faith in howard or no faith in the receiving corp? i'd say with any of these qb's we have had from fields to rodgers they all struggled without good receivers. for that matter even ben struggled more as the receiving corp dwindled. why wouldn't that be the same for howard? :smiley1::cool:

I have faith in the small sampling and what others have to say about Howard. I do not have faith in our receiving corp. Historically we have had a pretty good record choosing WRs. That is no longer the case anymore. Our game planning imho was brutal. Not using Muth enough was a huge mistake.

If they draft a QB this year it may be Nissmeirer. His dad coached with McCarthy in Dallas, so there’s a connection there.
