So you are not going to join the hit parade? Me neither. This will likely be Mike McCarthys last stint in the NFL and I think he is going to hire coaches that should help him as much as possible.

That's too bad. McCarthy's motto is eat harder, not smarter. :smiley1:

I will not get excited about McCarthy's coaching hires regardless of their number until he hires even one coach in a position to influence team direction that he has not worked with before.

It isn't like McCarthy has coached awful teams but he hasn't exactly helmed juggernauts either.

This is like hearing that the band is getting back together...but instead of being a really good band it is Creed.

Hate to break it to you but Creed, I think sold out every concert last year. The place near me holds 21,000 and it sold out in less than an hour. My neighbor went and she said it was incredible.

I love the Foo Fighters. They are an awesome group that have filled more than a few stadiums.

It's a shame about Taylor Hawkins.

    RIP Taylor.

I never had the impression that money was the barrier to Tomlin having a larger staff. I think he had the number of coaches he wanted and since he had no set philosophy there wasn't a need to hire quality control coaches, stats analytics staff, more strength and conditioning coaches or expand your video crew for breaking down teams tendencies vs your team. Tomlin was hampered more by his flexibility than the people he hired.

Those are both my point. Creed is successful and popular - I just kinda think they are unexciting and mind-numbingly mediocre. Just like Mike McCarthy. He has tons of achievements and a track record of success in the NFL. I watched his entire GB coaching career and there was nothing exciting or innovative about what he did. It was all fine...but I can never remember one time where you sat up off your coach and took notice of what the Packers were doing that wa NOT an Aaron Rodgers derived moment of individual brilliance.

Losing Taylor was a tragedy. Also, Ilan Rubin is excellent.

How many coaches did the Steelers have under Tomlin? When I did a web search, I got wildly varying answers and none from a site I would consider solid.

Shocked the hell out of me when I heard. Great drummer, put so much into it.

    His kid is good, too.

You can go here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Pittsburgh_Steelers_season and then just change the year in the address bar. NO IDEA if it is accurate.

More details here: https://steelersdepot.com/2025/07/s...he-nfls-smallest-coaching-staff-2025-edition/ plus the interesting tidbit that LARGER staffs have a lower win% and less playoff success.

Absolutely agree with the conclusion but a different idea of the why. I think it was more about control than lack of confidence.

I would expect that in a job interview, a potential coordinator would normally be asked "you've seen our team. How do you see yourself building a system that will get the most out of the personnel?" I believe Tomlin's approach was more like "This is what we're looking for. Can you do that?"

Of course I have nothing to base this on other than my own observation and guesswork, but either way it brought nothing but inept units.
