Good job McCarthy and Steelers! Evans is a HOF finalists and X player. He can add some value to the OL!

One of 15 finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025, Evans spent the first 11 seasons of his NFL career (2006-16) as a right guard for the New Orleans Saints. He started 169 games with that team, protecting Drew Brees and clearing the way in the ground game. Evans played for McCarthy and the Green Bay Packers during his final campaign (2017).

Sounds like MM is hiring better coaches than MT did.

Though, is it even possible to hire worse coaches than MT did?! LOL

Guy sounds like Munchak. Who was hired by Tomlin.

Hopefully we get similar results with this guy as we did under Munch.

Reading that McCarthy will be expanding the coaching staff compared to what we had under Tomlin. Will be interesting to see if the Steelers are actually willing to pay for the typical NFL number of coaches that other teams have. Maybe Tomlin intentionally didn't want a bigger coaching staff?

I like the sound of the staff that McCarthy is putting together. My single biggest frustration with Tomlin was the lacklustre coaching hires like Canada, Fichnter, Klemm etc.

Hopefully we see the results on the field

Look at the Penguins and how they are doing with a new coaching staff. Sometimes the same old is time to go. I'm excited for next season. The players need a new voice to lead them.

Evans will be the assistant O-Line coach, Campen is the O-line coach.

Yeah, I was wondering what they were going to do there since Campen is the OL coach and is more experienced at doing that while Evans is an up and coming guy - which I like.

I also like the fact that RB's coach is an OL guy. Chinyoung.

Adam Henry is a good hire too. That Bills WR's group wasn't as special as it has been but they are well coached and the Bills got the most out of them. Of course, it doesn't hurt having a great QB like Allen.

OC is a concern still. I don't mind McCarthy taking his time.
Scott Tolzien is a favorite. I wasn't high on Wells.
Graham is the only one I am a little uneasy with, but I do think Simmons sort of strengthens that spot once they figure out where he fits.

It looks like he's going with 13 positions (+2 Strength and conditioning). Maybe he adds a little later, I don't know.

Just spitballin here but perhaps the larger staff is intentional with older coaches mentoring a mix of younger ones to eventually take over in the next regime?

A bigger staff as well. What a novel idea.

This looks to be a good hire at an important position group.

If all this works out correctly, McCarthy can walk away after the Super Bowl win in 3-5 years.

Then one of these current staff hires takes over.

Picking (just having?) good coordinators was something Tomlin got worse at through his tenure.

I do wonder how much of this is his philosophy (I do think he became more controlling over the D with time...sounds like Butler talked about how he didn't have as much control as he would have wanted) and how much was budgetary constraints.

Re: Budget constraints. I wonder if we would have hired Flores if we would have had to pay market rate (I'd imagine we got him on the cheap since he was radioactive at the time). But Arthur Smith was probably not cheap (I generally like the idea of hiring failed HCs as coordinators).

I was thinking the same thing. As Steeler fans we're conditioned to always think "cheap Rooneys" whenever it comes to anything about money, but I also believe that Tomlin liked to hire yes men and keep them in a tight circle, so the smaller staff may have been his own doing.

Looks like what will be a sideways move. Leaving the city where he had a HOF career to take the same job with the Steelers. Looks like around the league there is some respect for what the Steelers are doing here. A chance for an up and coming coach to work with two highly regarded offensive coaches (McCarthy and Campen). It looks like those on the outside - fans and talking heads - don't approve of what the Steelers are doing. Looking at some of the hires so far, it seems that those on the inside (who know much more than we do) actually do like what they see.

Hopefully the light is going on with Art Rooney. It is time to increase the size of the coaching staff, and it is time to start modernizing the entire organization.

I certainly hope that some of these steps are being taken, because now is the time to do it with the new coaching staff. The entire organizational structure can be tweaked without causing as many issues for the people that were set in their ways within the building. Now is the time to do it.

I think it’s more an indictment of Tomlin and what we suspected all along.

Theres just not enough hours in the week, bigger staff makes more sense. Whatever the reason in the past, good to see the change.

It has always appeared to me that Tomlin hired coaches that he felt were beneath him in intelligence. I think he had an under confident complex. He was a great players coach and got the players to respond but when it came to X’s and O’s he was in over his head. His decision making was questionable at best and he never used a play card. Gut feelings was his mojo and sometimes it worked but often it didn’t. Getting blown out in the first round of the playoffs is something I will mostly remember him by.
