Just heard that our new head coach's first interview for Defensive Coordinator is none other than former Steelers draftee Jason Simmons..... Simmons spent the last 2 seasons as the Commanders' defensive pass game Coordinator and the yr before that in the same position with the raiders....
The last 3 yrs those 2 teams have been in the bottom 5 league wide in pass defense, and we're wasting time interviewing him to run the whole damn thing??????
    God help us!!!!!

That would be an awful DC hire.

Let's wait till he hires someone officially. Sometimes interviews are given as a courtesy or other reason. Maybe Rooney wants Rooney rule enforced for each position. who knows...let's just wait till a decision is made.

Seems like a guy whose career has been treading water…. On not great teams. Doesn’t look like a coach on the rise, but it’s just an interview, so we’ll see…..

It's a league requirement for coordinator positions, not a Rooney want.

Agreed. I watched Mike McCarty's introduction to the media and fans. He was emotional as it is his dream to coach the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He will improve our play calling, yards gained, and points.

But first he must focus on a better Defensive coordinator than Austin. Then adding free agents and having a good draft.

We have 37.6 million in cap space ( more when we cut or restaurant some players ) and 12 draft picks!

I am excited for the future of this team.

Well he would fit right in then! Probably coming in cheap which "Run it Back" Rooney gushes about. The total defensive rank for our Steelers in 2025 was 26th! But hey, they they came in 1st as the the highest paid defense! First in something right?!

I've never understood people's obsession with mega threads. Why can't there be multiple threads?
Mega threads are great for those that can follow along the entire time, but absolutely horrible for people that pop in and out. It keeps new people away from contributing.

Maybe not a Rooney want but a Rooney rule. Just get the best DC and OC out there.

Did you really think Rooney would give McCarthy a blank check for his staff?

While true, I tend to have a bit of skepticism of results of a coach (good and bad) that isn't in charge of the D or the O. We see in past some that came from mediocre units only to find out they're bright minds having to go along with a less bright leader on that unit.

I think I might rather have that unknown position coach, than a known mediocre, bend-and-break DC that plays conservative (DBs way off the WRs, not attacking, but back-peddling, no stunts, etc).

Check. This is the best opportunity they will have to retool this franchise. I'm ok with MM. Like you said, nail the assistants, cap money, restructures, all these pics. I have to believe there is a lot of GM's and asst. GM's and coaches that would absolutely love to have this opportunity to build a team in this situation. Done right, it can set us up well for years. Done wrong, and not spending serious money on coaches, it has the possibility of making us irrelevant for a long, long time.

There's a fine line. If you've got a lot of people commenting and subjects with enough depth to support a few tangential discussions, you have to let it breathe.

On the other hand, too many redundant threads clogging a page can be just as cumbersome to navigate.

But hey, it's an internet forum - everybody's got an opinion, and everybody's right. So no matter what you do, somebody thinks it sucks. :lolol:

Shaner....meet Forgotten. Green font is ALWAYS implied in his/her/they/them (?) posts. This was no exception with a link to Forgotten's sarcastic MM complaint thread.
