It seems like the McCarthy hire has truly angered a large swath of Steeler Nation, including many prominent pro-Steelers commentators and more than a few on this very board.

Whether one likes the hire or not, it does seem like it could be malfeasance that the organization didn't at least wait and see if they could get anywhere with the likes of Shula or Scheelhaus, as it seems unlikely that McCarthy would have been nabbed anywhere else.

All of the discussions about whether Tomlin should have been replaced years ago, why we kept Canada as long as we did, why there was no planning ahead of Ben's inevitable retirement, why the field constantly sucks, why they wasted a 1st round draft pick on a QB that was maybe a 3rd or 4th round pick at best, why Kahn was allowed to trade Pickens despite having no viable #1, #2 or #3 WR in place, why the Steelers have one of if not the smallest and cheapest coaching staffs in the NFL, why conditioning has seemed to suck year in and year out, and perhaps most damningly, why the Steelers haven't won a playoff game literally since the close of the Dan Rooney – all repeatedly discussed, but rarely with ARII as the focal point of blame. And the list could very easily go on and on.

While I'm not necessarily in agreement with or as passionate about every single one of these topics, they do come up a fair bit, and – at end of the day, while we've had many complaints about others in the organization, shouldn't the buck ultimately stop with ARII?

I've heard some now say that the team should be sold - is that going to far, or can the franchise really not be salvagable under ARII's leadership? While I'd prefer it stays in the family, personally, I can see why some are no longer so tolerant of the idea.

Art needs to go, keep it in the family and see whether they next Rooney up has any fire or passion for winning or is just happy with mediocrity.

ART II is the NFL's Ned Flanders.

All the life and charisma of a 3 day old salad.

Agree with everything stated, honestly. ARII is cooked and has been for quite some time now - arguably since day one of being handed the reigns. He probably means well, but he's just about the cheapest, most backwards-looking and milquetoast owner one could possibly get. The Flanders comparison is particularly apt.

All he has is looking back to the past, and the one time it really mattered, he went loco and hired a retread, one would have thought "Well at least a milque toast, stick in the mud, boring old fart, would stick with tradition, and begin a new era".

But no, he couldn't even be relied upon to do that...

It's especially weird (and possibly even concerning) that ARII went out of his way to specifically and unambiguously declare that there would "be no retreads", only to turn around a couple weeks later and do just that. What was the thought process involved that evidently compelled him to go back on that – I halfway wonder if the man, with his age, could be losing a step - as in, maybe he actually forgot he said that.

I don’t know if that's the case or if there is decline, if it's actually that bad, of course -and barring publicly available medical disclosures, it's something that can obviously only at this point be speculated upon - however, it nevertheless is possibly worthy of at least some consideration. I've sadly had multiple family members with cognitive issues in their later years, and it's often creeped up slowly in form of increasingly contradictory statements and odd, head scratching decisions in situations that you would not expect it in.

Or maybe he was just always oddly ineffective and mid.

He's extended a SB window that closed years ago - and demonstrably so, and yet again demonstrably so with Aaron Rodgers, albeit a 70% AR, who was still 100% better than anyone we'd had since BR retired. There's apparently links that go back between MM, Weidl and Khan.

Apparently he gave him 5 years, I haven't had magic mushrooms/MDMA or LSD for years either. Maybe I should go back to it, and see if this is just some alternate reality.

This is literally the worst outcome I could imagine, as for retreads, I'd guess Flanders doesn't consider MM a retread by some, criteria known only to him.

This is not a bridge coach he's got 5 years, Flanders isn't firing a HC before then. Too cheap, too deluded. He wouldnlt rebuild, he wanted to run it back again. This is Flanders wrapping himself in another comfort blanket until he retires.

I'm willing to see what coordinators he can possibly bring in before I totally write him or the team off completely. Heck, I might even watch some games and give the man a chance, even if I'm not expecting much. If it's more of the same, though, I admittedly might be out for awhile. Tbh, I think I'd take a 5-12 season and a higher draft pick over yet another 9-8 season with a 1 game playoff exit, so long as the players at least appear as though they're trying – but if it's more of the same that we've seen from Tomlin's team over the last 10+ seasons, it's probably going to be difficult to want to watch that kind of product. Lately, it has sometimes felt like a waste of time watching this team just go through the motions. While some of this attitude and culture of mediocrity has doubtlessly been a consequence of uninspired coaching, it's almost certainly also a reflection of the ownership's leadership (or the lack thereof).

Hey, if I can find a way to come up with a few billion dollars... I'll buy the team. Win-win in my opinion.

Only problem is that I am a few billion short.

He earned his benefit of a doubt by being fired by his last two employers.

A Five year deal. The gummy worm Art II is rumored to step down in five years.

He has traded a Mike for a Mike to hold on to the participation trophy non losing seasons instead of going younger and building from there.

    Buckle up...

Art made it clear in his end of season interview that the Steelers are not going to go young and rebuild this team.

The Steelers were not going to get a young head coach with a 5 year plan.

Mike McCarthy is here to win today, and I fully expect the Steelers to be starting a 35+ year old QB in 2026.

All Art2 cares about is remaining competitive so he can keep selling tickets and merchandise. The Steelers are the Rooney's primary source of income (a rarity among owners in the 4 major sports), and he running the team in such a way that it's profit before championships.

I am not a fan of this Rooney. At first I thought this was just a safe hire but I think there is more to this. Right now we are in QB pergutory as an organization. Yes I would have loved a young innovative hire like a Shula or Scheelhaase but it would have been a waste without having a franchise QB.

I think they are looking at McCarthy to develop Howard and if that fails we draft a franchise QB next year hopefully and McCarthy will develop that guy. Then you bring in young aoC’s and DC’s to develop from within and promote to HC when McCarthy leaves.

I just don’t understand how the Steelers fans ( I have been one since 1957) could spend there had earned money on season tickets to watch that nonsense that goes on the field. They talk about a QB, hell get a front line first it is worn out, then go to the D there getting old. Until that happens we will always be mediocre. And that is ashame. Then they turn around and hire a 62 year old coach. WOW

Instead of finding the next Sean Mcvay we've hired the once hot coach twice since fired, from the dial up internet era.
