At least 5 others would have caused some excitement.

This only works if the new OC and DC are his heir apparents.

10-8 postseason record in GB mostly with Rodgers in his prime. 1-3 with Dallas after 3 straight 12-5 seasons.

Im not excited. Get ready for another influx of aging talent.

Where is the Poll? I opened this thread to Vote.

And, quick reminder Mike McCarthy has never developed a QB he has drafted. Just like Mike Tomlin.

Don’t like this hire one bit. Should have waited on one of the young guys to finish out the playoffs and then make the hire.

Cautiously optimistic, so I guess yes. Did not want a defensive hire so glad it wasn't Flores

Not real excited about it. As per usual, I'll hold off judgment, but with nothing else to see yet, it looks like it could be more of the same thing Tomlin has been doing. Hope I'm wrong.

I think you’re right, he is 62 and morbidly obese. I think we get 2 years.

I liked cheering for Vick more than I like this hire LMAO. The consequences of employing Vick are super minor compared to the consequences of a coaching hire.

Vick at least paid for his crimes and appears to have changed his life for the better. Besides, he was a third string QB IIRC. We didn't invest the future on Vick, we simply had him as an emergency back up plan. He was a decision that affected one season (and really less than 3 full games). A coaching hire is going to affect the next half decade or more, whether it turns out good or bad.

The McCarthy hire is head scratching because we're putting our faith in his ability to catalyze the future of a winning organization... Which, seems like a stretch at best. I know that there are still coordinator hires to be determined and that could change the feeling for me a bit, but it is really hard to sit here today and have a warm fuzzy feeling about the future of this organization. We seem to have been two feet planted firmly in the "irrelevant middle" bucket of the NFL for nearly a decade... At this moment in time, I think we are more likely to have one foot in the "poverty franchise" bucket than we are to have one foot in the "relevant contender" bucket.

It's... not a good day to be a Steeler fan today.

I’ll commit to liking the hire. I like that we went offense. Would I have preferred Steelhoss or Shula and Steelhoss at OC? Absolutely. However, maybe we got lucky with young Tomlin and a good foundation.

This time around we know the roster is soft and we need experience at the HC position.

All we need is a good DC and I think we will be fine on offense. I doubt McCaffrey will let us go into the season without a legit passing attack.

5 years? If this doesn't work, Art II's track record of not moving on from Tomlin does not bode well even if McCarthy doesn't work out.....

Yes. The reason is I trust the ownership. I appreciate how Rooney sent Tomlin off.

I don't believe they have long-term expectations, but probably discussed an element of rebuilding.

I'm not in the no category because I don't see him coaching past more than 3 years.

I see him as a short term solution. I think there needs to be CPR infused into this offense.

Actually he developed Rodgers. Thats one of the pluses I can pull from this hire, he could be very good for Howard.

But he didn't draft him. Guess who is the best QB Mike McCarthy ever drafted? Cooper Rush? Matt Flynn? Ben DiNucci?

If the Steelers wanted an older experienced head coach that has had success with drafting QBs they missed the mark.
