I think I'm going to have to apologize to Tomlin.He had his flaws, but the Steelers' biggest problem is Art Rooney.

Dan Rooney had guts and willing to take risks, get laughed at now for promise of tomorrow.

Continuing to try to win with and trade for all these old ass players is hurting the Steelers way. Now Rooney brings in a retread 62 yo coach, instead of sticking to the formula that has worked since the 70s to usher in a new Era, in hopes of bringing back Rodgers is my guess. This is called desperation to me.

 

I don't hate it either. I assumed they would go young but not totally surprised with MM. I do think he is an upgrade, be it small. I may get flamed but I throw out MM's Dallas record. That's the biggest circus in the NFL other than the Browns in the last 20 years. I fall back to what I've said in other threads, Rooney must spend money on top coordinators and o-line coach. My gut says Rodgers comes back and they see a future with Howard. They must have magic in this draft and free agency to make this work though.

 

One other last thing...why do this now? You could have talked with the next wave of candidates as they became available on Monday. Instead, you rush to announce that McCarthy is the guy. The guy that ONE other team interviewed. ONE. And they didn't want to hire him.

It is a bad process. Bad process typically produces bad results.

I will try and hold my tongue on forecasting doom and gloom....but the end of the McCarthy era in GB was bad. Like everyone thought he might be TRYING to get fired bad. And that was with Aaron Rodgers in his winning MVP prime.

Think about it. McCarthy has this reputation as a "QB guy". He wanted Alex Smith over Aaron Rodgers. He walked into Favre. He then got Rodgers dropped in his lap. He then fell backwards into prime Dak Prescott. Did Mike McCarthy make QBs or did QBs make Mike McCarthy?

I am just hoping that when the dust settles there are more details that emerge that provide some sense there is a plan other than "compete" because McCarthy really isn't known for much of anything specific. He has no defining traits as a coach.
