We've been hearing this same song for a few years now.

It feels like someone is just messing with us at this point!

His current contract kind of sucks.

Wouldn't be like where we traded for Minkah and got a bunch of benefit because so much of his deal was tied up in a SB that was paid by the Dolphins.

Has a low salary $1.2MM next year (with a $10MM option).

But then the price goes up to $27mm + $10mm option and $29mm salary + $10mm option in the next two seasons.

And he's coming off a season where he was injured + disappointing for his contract value when he did play (374 yards in 7 games). Basically, injured and delivered like DK when healthy. Not bad. But not value for what he was being paid.

I think we need to fix the WR problem by hitting on one in the draft. I'd probably draft one in rd 1 or 2. And another one in rd 3 or 4 (where I think we have a total of 5 picks). R Wilson appears to be a miss. And Austin is probably a decent WR3, but I don't think we should extend him unless he comes cheap (and WRs are expensive).

If they can sign him it'll look like Tomlin never left.

    He's a young doppelganger!

Because of his off field problems last year the 49ers were able to Void All his guarantees.

    https://www.nfl.com/news/john-lynch-safe-to-say-brandon-aiyuk-has-played-last-snap-with-49ers

"It's safe to say he's played his last snap with the Niners," Lynch said.

Aiyuk's departure has been anticipated since the 49ers voided the 2026 guaranteed money in Aiyuk's contract in late November, then placed the receiver on the reserve/left squad list in mid-December, ending a season that never began

You guys ran All-Pro George Pickens out of town and now you want to bring in Brandon Aiyuk?

Funny, I did not even know there was a "reserve/left squad" player designation. I guess this is what you use when the player just stops coming into work.

Those seeking an explanation for the breakdown in the tumultuous relationship between Aiyuk and the 49ers received one Wednesday: Aiyuk inexplicably stopped coming into the team's facility and communicating with them, according to Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan.

"It's confusing for all of us," Shanahan said. ... "We still don't understand it very well."

    1) Voiding guarantees doesn't change the options or the salaries. Just makes them not guaranteed. Just like DK. If any changes were made to his contract, I'd imagine they are current on OTC. The DK contract became current less than a week after he tried to play an IRL game of Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

    2) Not sure where the "you guys" comes from. I wanted to keep (but not extend) GP because (1) he was cheap on a rookie deal and (2) I didn't want us to make the same same mistake of going into a season with only one WR two years in a row.

We don't need another expensive WR that (1) somewhat under performs his contract, and (2) is volatile re: attitude. We already have DK.

If SF is willing to have a fire sale where they throw in some draft capital or eat that roster bonus next year then OK. And if they did that, I wouldn't want to trade more than one of our 4ths. And even then maybe not. It's likely just a one year rental of a guy coming off a torn ACL + MCL. I'd maybe think about picking him up if they cut him. But only for pretty cheap (more than the vet min...but not a lot).

His contract guarantees were voided because of his failure to do the things he needed to do in rehab. Allowing that to happen is such an egregious error that it points to a major problem. He is either very dumb, very childish or very apathetic. None of those options are a quality that you want in a key position from a player being paid a suitcase full of money.

This is the NFL bud. Never enough picks. Especially when this team needs a massive infusion of young talent.

It sounds like one of two things happened. He either got paid and stopped trying (low probability due to him voiding his contract doing this) or he had a mental health episode due to the knee injury suffered in 2024. Not sure what's going on there, but he might have some CTE related thing or bipolar (hard to speculate)... its pretty bizarre. To me, it would be hard to take a chance on him with anything other than a vet minimum contract. No one will trade capital for him. The Niners will have to cut him.

I don't know how things would have been different if we ended up trading for him in 2024, but I am certainly glad we didn't. The niners certainly have to regret the whole thing after the hold out and rampant trade rumors. Lots of drama for a disaster.

"Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me" is a proverb meaning if someone deceives you once, it's their fault, but if they trick you a second time, the fault lies with you for not learning from the first experience, highlighting the importance of recognizing patterns and not being repeatedly duped. The phrase suggests a lesson in discernment, with blame shifting from the trickster to the tricked after a second failure.

Exactly, and just because the team has a lot of picks doesn't mean they are going to take 12 players. They can use that draft capital to move up or move down to navigate the draft process and get exactly what they want.

They'll take as many draft picks as they can get their hands on.
