If they want Shula, they’ll get him. Shula had interviews with the Steelers, Raiders, Dolphins, Ravens and Cardinals.

So, if those four teams get coaches before the Steelers, it’s a lock he’s coming to Pittsburgh.

Funny tidbit. Cleveland asked him for an interview and he declined them. Haha.

Any coach that has a choice of teams has to be paying attention and have given a long look at how the Steelers back their head coaches.

In a world where billionaire owners with $hitty organizations creating crappy teams are firing head coaches every two seasons when, in reality, that head coach never had a chance. The worst part for these guys is the realization that their opportunity could be their only chance to ever get a head coaching gig. We all sit here and talk about not wanting retreads, but I'm sure there have been a lot of good coaches that are treated as lepers because they "failed" as a head coach that got sucked up into the black hole that is some NFL franchises.

The Steelers have to be considered the elite destination of almost any head coaching candidate because they know the Steelers have a great support system and they are going to let the head coach have a chance to build something. They aren't going to get thrown out on their ass and banished to the Coordinator Zone for eternity as soon as things don't go well.

I think that ultimately, the Steelers are going to get whoever they really want.

I don't think it will matter that much about not having a current star quarterback because the coach will have input to get the quarterback of his choice. I know I would rather go out with the guys I helped to choose that fit the system I want to run and then develop and build that in a way that I envisioned it.

I don't think the Steelers want a head coach that can't coach unless they have an elite quarterback. They want to hire a guy that is also in it for the long haul and not chasing one championship with the hot quarterback of the moment.

    Just my opinion.

Having a QB is a big lure but having ownership that offers stability and job security is a bigger draw. A HC in that situation will like the challenge of being able to build a winning team and get a QB of their own.

IMO only the Ravens job is more attractive, they offer both.

I hear you, but not every coach is going to think that the Ravens is more attractive.

There are going to be coaches that don't want Lamar Jackson. They don't want to run that offensive system that needs to be run for Jackson to succeed. Lamar has not played well in pressure situations in the playoffs. Jackson is also showing signs of breaking down, and if that guy loses another step, he won't be Lamar Jackson anymore. He is just going to be a quarterback on the downside of his career that can't beat you from the pocket. When that happens, not only are you stuck with a quarterback you can't win with for a long time, you may have to install a new offensive system that will also require a change in personnel when you move on from Jackson.

I think that will be a daunting situation to some coaches.

They can come to an agreement next week after Shula's in person interview if they want to, last year the Saints agreed to hire Eagles OC Kellen Moore as they prepared for the Super Bowl.

Some order of the Steelers, Ravens, and Giants jobs are likely seen as the first tier. Organizations that are seeking stability and long-term commitments to their coaches. Understand that the Giants have not been that lately, but it is who they want to be.

Then you gotta think there are many coaches who would like to get the chance to work with Allen in Buffalo.

After that....it is a cluster of poorly run franchises with a track record of wild pivots in priorities and poor mandates from ownership.

I certainly get the Giants being attractive because there isn't as much expectation based on recent performance, and the team has a good, young quarterback and a roster with a lot of talent.

I think that's why Harbaugh really likes that spot.

Twenty million dollars a year doesn't hurt either! :smiley1:

Hell, I would imagine that even the likes of Klint Kubiak would decline as well. Jimmy Haslam is very terrible overall sans the amount of assets he possesses. Beyond that, dude is a complete buffoon.

Setting back your franchise to compete with generational talents like Joe Thomas and Myles Garrett just to appease your own ego is just as incomprehensibly conceited as it is idiotic.
