It wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if they only won 4 or 5. I think they will win more though. With next year's potential QB class being much better than this year, this would be the year to falter. Combined with a new system and staff often times taking a year to come together. Also, I believe the right hire and good assistants can make a massive difference. I think we've had a weak staff for most of MT's years. I'm hopeful for good draft decisions and good free agency decisions and maybe only a couple down years before they start climbing to the top again. I believe , obviously, head coach and QB are the 2 most important parts of a team and they have neither. Just hopes and dreams right now.

He is a better talent, prospect coming out of college and now 7 years later, than quarterbacks who are competing in the league like Darnold, Daniel Jones, Purdy. You don't waste that talent. Khan knows why they drafted him. I understand Tomlin favored KP because of his scrambling, but he would also keep Drake Maye on the bench after a 2-7 start last season, and then go and get him a real quarterback, Justin Fields.
Look, you have to play and compete with a talented passer who is better than some quarterback who are competing in the playoffs!
He is better than CJ Stroud, Bryce Young, Penix. Geno. Definitely better talent than those. I don't want to keep naming all the QBs who other teams invested in. The pertinent references are the ones in the playoff hunt and playoffs. And he is better than those quarterbacks.

We went to Chicago, he played off the bench against a playoff team and we lost by 3 scoring 28, without any offseason starting prep and reps to lead the team, cold off the bench.
Meanwhile Rodgers score 6 against the Bills at home, and 10 points at Chargers, and he had a GREAT season for the Steelers. You guys still live in Tomlin's world of 5-year quarterback baffoonery.

Turnarounds can happen much quicker these days. OK with some down years as long as it's leading to becoming competitive in the playoffs

A USC Qb has never won a super bowl before. This may be the first time.

Analyze the roster to see who fits with the schemes that he wants to run. Set an innovative direction.

Draft players that will stick and see the long term to rebuild the roster with homegrown talent.

Bring in free agents that have don't one and a half feet in the retirement home.

Personally I don't care if they have a few down seasons to rebuild and get better draft positions. Some will cry, suck it up butter cups.

This is why I want an up and comer like Shula.

McCarthy will be a stop gap and really now do we want to see the Rinse and Repeat again? I don't. Add Flores to that list as well.

The gummy worm owner says that he doesn't want to waste a year, The last decade says "Hold my Beer".

If the new coach has a down year or two and is rebuilding the roster he isn't going to get fired.

Given the status of this roster, the lack of a QB, No WR corps, aging Defense, it will hinder the head coach search.
It's not the worst, complete gut and rebuild some have said needs to happen.
So, any new coach they hire will have the decked stacked against him the first season or so.

    * Finding a QB is not easy. The Steelers have picks, and not a terrible cap position but where's the QB?
After Mendoza, the draft drops off at quality QB's.
    - Beck is a decent QB and could be a good QB for the right team. That team would have to have a power run game and solid defense. They would also need a good support case (TE, WR's and pass catching RB's) They also need to keep Beck's unform clean.
-Ty Simpson. I still like him though again, like Beck, he needs to be in the right program. I would say that if Pittsburgh hires the 2 LA Rams guys, Simpson could be a better fit than Beck.
    * We also have Howard who is still unknown what he can do. Tomlin trusted Rogers, as he should, and Mason so that says something about Howard not seeing the field. I also like Sylar as a 2 or 3 QB as long as he beat competition.

So, there are some options, though not the perfect scenario of selling point for a new HC.

*WR's - there's going to be help in Free Agency for sure but Omar's cheapskate tactics and lack of skills at dealing, is not reassuring at all. There there's the question of Metcalf who is a wonderful talent, but his head seems to get clouded up from time to time. They certainly could grab a good WR in Free Agency and a good draft pick.

Head Coaches like to have something to work with. I don't think Aaron Rogers at 43 is going to entice any potential Head Coaches decision. I imagine that is, in fact, a major point in the interviews with potential candidates.

While the team 'retools' the fans will have to have some semblance of restraint and give it a shot. I wouldn't say a 1-16 type patience as there needs to be indicators.

There's a lot of work to be done and I wish time would fly to get that Head Coach named and see the OC's and DC's brought in. The draft is some time away but Free Agency starts soon and I sure don't want to leave Omar to his own devices.

Denver's defensive line will dominate Pats OL meaning Drake Maye will be running for his life.
I like Denver to squeak this one out at home.

I'll take a losing season if that helps us get to a ring. Having non losing seasons gets you right where we've been in the draft for two decades. Sometimes taking a step back to get two forward is worth it. Not tanking, just strategizing short to long term. JMO>

1st I was told it was the coaches, and scheme why we only won 10 games, and didn't win a playoff game. Now I'm being told it was the roster.
    So which was it??
Was the the coaching so good that they made a bad roster win 10 games, and make the playoffs 3 years straight, or was the coaching so bad we should have won more with the roster we had??
You people can't have it both ways, and hedge your bets.

And that is what no one wants to admit.

Fans like to live in the fantasy that their team is some magic X and O fix away from glory.

The Steelers are several years away. I don't care who the coach is.

The only thing for a absolute fact a losing season gets you is for sure no playoff win.
People act like every time you have a losing season you get a Ben Roethlisberger. LoL
Ask all the teams that have losing seasons all the time.
Hell ask the Steelers. It took 7 different losing seasons throughout the year to get Ben after Bradshaw was gone.

That 9-8 joke is lame since they only went 9-8 once .
