odds are not good getting success from a retread coach. If your looking for a Bill Bilicheck or Vrabel good luck, that situation is pretty unique to NE and their organization. Only other coach i can think of who had success in his second stint was Dick Vermeil. Steelers have always had success finding coordinators.

ok i stand corrected, there are a few, but still not many. i still think the steelers will go the coordinator route, as they should.

You only need to look to the other side of the state of PA to see why this becomes a problem. Granted, I'd take a Superbowl win like they did to have that problem.

Reportedly, they’re looking for a leader FIRST n foremost, out of a pool of eligible candidates.

a leader? Like Tomlin? We need a coach that gets this team ready to play up to their potential every week, against the top teams and bottom feeders. All the other stuff about leadership is kind of BS

Reid deserves credit for drafting(and trade up for him) and developing Mahomes

I know this is a foreign concept after 20 years of Tomlin…. But it’s important because you can double dip. Head Coach can call the plays on offense or defense. I’m surprised the Steelers who are historically cheap wouldn’t prefer that approach.

Tomlin just giving the 1000 yard stare… Not knowing when to use timeouts, challenge calls, or go for it. Then throwing cliches at players to hype them up lol

A head coach most definitely can not call the offense play by play

Having input on the game plan absolutely

As far calling the defense highly unlikely less you just run a vanilla defense

Read Bill Cowher’s book he explains why you are wrong

Ummm have you seen what Andy Reid can do with his iHop menu?

    Sean McVay… Sean Payton…

Every coach left calls plays on offense or defense besides Vrabel

But according to some expert Steelers fans Austin was just a puppet, and Tomlin called the defensive plays .

Every Super Bowl winning team is lucky to have the QB they had. It's extremely rare to win it all with an average QB.

You can both be mostly a puppet and call the plays on game day. Calling the plays during the game is only a part of the defensive equation. Coming up with and implementing a system and creating a gameplan is an even bigger part. And Tomlin's philosophy on both sides of the ball were evident. Coordinators changed. The approach didn't.

i think it's got to be a guy that people can work with and not get pigeonholed into their way is the only way. lateral moves for DC's and OC's don't make a lot of sense unless they can show their prowess as a stepping stone. not how MT managed his DC's in using them as minnions. a truly good head coach is on the same page with his coordinators and believe in what they are doing. then you have something. offensive or defensive.

I never thought it would happen. He just doesn't feel like he is a fit in Pittsburgh.

I can only imagine the comments with his laid back, quirky attitude and wearing his capri pants at training camp. :roflmao:

Noll called the offense until the back half of his career when he finally hired an OC.

i wouldnt say extremely rare, it happens sometimes, with average or good Qb’s who play well enough and rely on the running game and defense (Trent Dilfer, Joe Flacco, even Jalen Hurts) you could go back further in super bowl history and find other Qb’s who managed their roles.
