Tomlin's style was to role with a veteran QB, which Mason now is, and play conservative, not-to-lose football on offense. Keep games close until the 4th quarter and figure out a way to win at the end. Worked fairly well in the regular season. Turned into humiliation in the playoffs.

Rolling with Rudolph in 2026 would not be a Steelers' style but a coach's style. I would not expect our next coach to do this unless he's going into a rebuild mode, with the expectation of a plan to draft a franchise QB in the next few years.

Noll went 3 before a winning record and then went insane. Cowher started hot right off the bat as did Tomlin.

But I think we can agree that is not Mason Rudolph

Mason will likely be on the team as a backup

#2 or #3 will be decided in OTA camp and preseason

I wouldn't be all that surprised if Stidham pulls a Nick Foles 2.0, it would certainly make for a good story.

I don't know Foles had over 40 NFL starts before his Superbowl run. Stidham has only had 4 career starts, the last one in 2023. He has won one of his 4 starts. Sean Payton is a great coach but I'm not sure he's a miracle worker.

The best example is the QB of the 1990 Giants

Jeff Hostetler also had only 4 career starts before his Superbowl run with the Giants but he did start the last 2 games of the regular season that year after Simms was out for the year. He was well known around Western Pennsylvania playing his HS ball in Johnstown and playing 2 years at Penn State before transferring to West Virginia where he played for 3 years.

The new coach will get a pass in year one. 8 wins or more.

Even more pressure will be on Khan.

Tomlin and Khan were a bad mix of poor coaching and overpaid players.

If we were able to get 9 Ws with Tomlin consistently, I feel good just about anyone could do the same with this roster.

Yea it will suck to miss those 9 or 10 wins seasons WC losses by 25 and drafting 21. We will all just be dying for those times truly exhilarating.

Unless they hire an older coach like McCarthy they are not firing a coach in 3 years.

Tomlin hasn’t won a playoff game in 9 years and AR2 wanted to “run it back” Super Bowl goal? We haven’t been close in over 15 years.

NFL isn’t going to want him in the SB. Expect Those Refs to have a pregame pep talk from the league.

I disagree. If they hire McCarthy. they will not fire him in three years because he will deliver, there will be no reason to fire him. If they hire a first time HC, there is a high likelihood he will be fired in three years, because this time around there is no coaching staff to inherit.

I have no idea what you are saying about the first time HC but you are very bullish in Mike McCarthy. He had HOF Rodgers in GB or a very good Dak. Here he would have 43 yr old Rodgers who can’t move or Mason/Will.

I'm bullish on Mason too. I am bullish on Khan getting a new QB if need be. I am bullish on Howard, just not yet. I am bullish on Mike McCarthy's QB expertise to land a helping hand to Khan, and to the offense.

Why in Gods name would you be bullish on Mason? Has he not shown in 7 years what he is?

The coaching certainly makes a difference, but lets not forget Drake Maye's development. He wasn't with the team for the first 4-13 season and was a rookie that started 12 games for the second. He's an MVP candidate, right now second in the odds. I get that coaching helped turn a bottom 10 defense into a top 10 one... but Maye's development into a really good player is the main catalyst for that team's turnaround. He turned the second worst offense in the league into the second best. That's what QB play can do.
