Art is 73, that day has to be getting close where Dan succeeds him.

Well, at his press conference last week Art said it will be him and Khan leading the search.

    “Leading” the search

Art will certainly talk to his son Dan

    Omar might confer with Weidel

    But that will be it

Leading the search doesnt mean not taking any input from anyone else. I imagine both Dan and Weidl will be involved.

Art is 73, would be silly not to have your son involved who is taking over soon.

His comments show everyone he is as clueless as we think he is. Worst of the rooneys by far. He sucks. Smallest coaching staff in the league and hire a gm who spend all
Money on d when it’s an offense league. Still waiting for a #2 wr

In the 3rd decade of the 21st century it might be a better idea to get away from nepotism and find some incredibly smart people to run this NFL organization. Art Sr. And his son Dan were absolutely fantastic with their dreams. Those days have long passed.

This is like looking at my family tree on ancestry. On my mom's side there are at least 4 Conrads going back into the 1800s, on my dad's side it was rough because my grandpa was 1st generation American so records were sketchy. Like he was a junior but no one knows what my great grandfather's middle name was. So we have a lot of Joseph's and Roberts throughout my older brothers kid's lol.

It was well known that Khan wasn't calling all the shots. Tomlin had a massive say in the roster. I don't think anyone knows how much Art was involved.
I think Khan will be calling all the shots moving forward though.

I wonder if there will be a shift at all.

As I have said before and will again, AR II is likely to step down either before the end of the decade or by 2030. His time, like Tomlin and Big Ben, has come and gone. Time for a new face for the team.

Keep in mind that AR II wanted Tomlin to continue coaching. Gotta give Coach T credit for stepping down even though it probably wasn't the easiest thing to do. Ball is now in AR IIs court; Omar Khan and Andy Weidl doubly so.

Andy has built Super Bowl capable teams in the past while Omar has been around the block himself while being a lot more modern than Kevin Colbert was. Here is hoping that both can aid Pittsburgh in nabbing that guy at the Head Coaching spot. Once you have that guy at Head Coach?!

Figuring out the rest is a but easier. Not by much but much better than without him.

I wonder what the tax implications will be when the team passes to the next generation.

IIRC, last time they were forced to take on minority owners to pay the inheritance tax.

How many more times can they pass the team down before they can't afford to keep the team?

Why would there be an inheritance tax? Art II still owns the team, hes just stepping down from his roll in day to day operations. But this isnt in my wheel house so Im probably wrong.

Art Rooney owned the Steelers from 1936.
They weren't good for many years and finally came to the peak during the 70's (41 years)
I think I think it is more correct that The Chief made a great decision with Noll. It was Art Jr and Noll that made some great draft choices through those years.
Success sometimes breeds contempt and all good things came to end and Dan took over that Drafting process...

    Art II took over ~2016/17....
I would say that early on, after that 'meeting' with Cowher that drafting got better. Colbert was key in many of the early ones.
Of course, Tom Donaho wasn't bad, he just couldn't get along with Cowher. He did suck in Buffalo.

I don't like Omar and I don't care for him 'leading the effort' but if I am proven wrong, it is just that.
Omar drafts are not what many seem to think they are.
I also think keeping star players and other players past their prime is not working as those contracts become expensive and handcuffs the team with the salary cap.

I would have preferred a fresh start with a new GM and Head Coach.

I think Art II is capable of finding a Head Coach and I am sure there are consulting firms involved in this process too.
I think the scary part is that there are a number of teams 'fishing' the waters for a Head Coach.
They appear to be steering the course though.

As I've said before, OC and DC are more concerning to me as these staffs start to fill.
I do not want to see Austin or Smith back and for that matter most of that last staff.

I don’t remember the exact details but when Joe Robbie died his family couldn’t afford the taxes so they had to sell the Miami Dolphins

Shortly after that the tax law was changed

Who has he really missed on? Roman? And thats such an odd situation it could very well be coaching malpractice. We’ll find out eventually. I think they have done a very good job with building the lines. Obviously Weidl is part of that, probably a big part of that portion of the roster.

Dont think you have to worry about Austin or Smith being back. Most of the staff will turn over. Could see maybe Faulkner remaining and possibly Tom Arth if Shula is the coach.
