    Some good stuff in here.

Flores might be the guy. He didnt predict him to us, was just talking about his coaching skills in general but I could definitely see that appealing to Rooney.

I haven't listened yet, and I don't always agree with Stink, but I always respect what He has to say.

The reason I want Scheelhasse as HC though is because if he comes here as OC he’s probably gone in 2/3 years for a HC role elsewhere. I want the offensive guru damnit we deserve it after Tomlin Ball for 20 years.

Of course he is. Would we expect anything less from our owner?

Another decade and a half of mediocrity, here we come …

I don't know who the 'right guy' is. I do know Mike Tomlin made the right decision. If he spoke about this being his last year prior to the season even starting, it was time.

I just don’t understand this argument. Coordinators are going to come and go whether they suck or they're awesome. If we have a sound structure and sound QBCs and Pass Game Coordinators we can always promote from within. If we're habitually losing the next great young mind, that means we're either winning SBs or we're very dāmn close to it on a yearly basis. So I just don't see how exactly this is a bad thing. And the same applies to an offensive minded guy routinely losing DCs for HC gigs.

Scheelhaase is the guy IMO. Has the personality for it supposedly, and he's a McVey PGC. I am pretty sold on that. Not that Shula would be a bad thing (I have read a lot good about him too), but man, it would be such a breath of fresh air to do a 180 from defensive minded guy running defensive concepts from 2010 to the passing game coordinator from one of the two most innovative offensive minds football has to offer....

    My preference in order
    1. Scheelhaase
    2. Shula
    3/4. Klay Kubiak/Jesse Minter
    5. Ejiro Evero
    6. Jeff Hafley
    7. Anthony Weaver
    8. Brian Flores

I agree with this to an extent. There will always be Shanahan/McVey tree passing game coordinators from across the league to promote to OC. Though, I do love the idea of having an offensive minded HC for a change. You can hire DC's in the same manner. Personally, I think the best combo would be a guy like Scheelhaase as the HC/OC his top offensive assistant as OC and a vet/tenured DC that might've been a failed HC or something. Think Schwartz, Morris, Flores, Spagnuolo, Fangio, Joseph, Bowles, etc..

I prefer the best person for the job. My number one quality is a coaches philosophy for the other side of their expertise and their ability to build a staff the opposite side of the ball from their expertise. I just don't care if it's an offensive or defensive guru. Things like leadership and innovation are definitely important as well. Being able to successfully zig when the league is zagging is very important. At what point does the Shanahan zone run system become the norm and no longer innovative? I do like Scheelhaase and Klay Kubiak's usage of 13 personnel, but until they become playcallers themselves, I'm just not a fan of neither of them. I just don't want to end up with guys in over their heads due to not being ready for the gig yet.

Ideally the Shanahan/McVey system innovates as time passes. I would hope the system looks different 10 years from now than it does today to fit/beat the zigs and zags of the times. I mentioned it in another thread in convo with you, but I could care less that they haven’t called plays. We’re not hiring them for their play calling prowess alone, we want a leader that will install a winning culture and a modern scheme to beat the opposition. They will either become a good play caller or hire someone who is…

I can agree with someone that can build the side of the ball they don’t coach though. I want a guy that isn’t afraid to hire young talented coordinators/trend-setters and isn’t afraid to be more “hands off” with the role to some degree. Those things tend to lead to talent wanting to come coach for you (something that we lacked under Tomlin).

I think the biggest trait Rooney looks for is being a leader and to me Shula has that in spades and obviously knows the football side of it.

Hire Shula and bring in someone like Scheelhaase or Klay Kubiiak to run the offense.

If somehow Flores doesn’t get hired as a HC, bring him in as DC. That would be a strong start to the staff.

I think Munchak is probably done with coaching but try and lure him here to coach the line.

Sheeelhaase is getting a HC gig in this cycle. There aren’t enough quality candidates to fill all the openings so someone will take a chance on him. He may decide that he wants a year or two as an OC first, but if he wants a HC position I think he will get one.
