How would you feel about Jerod Mayo being our next HC?

I know Brian Flores’ name is being batted around as a “top candidate” to replace Coach T, but could Rooney also see Jerod Mayo as another high value target that we should keep an eye on?

If you recall, he was shown the door after a single 4-13 season with the Pats just because Kraft favored someone with vision and who was capable of winning games.

Given the cultural differences between the Steelers and the Pats - and the 19 year’s of proof that we have a much more lax policy when it comes to accountability and winning games - do you think the Steelers could possibly be an ideal landing spot for Mayo? It’s difficult to ignore the synergies that could potentially exist here.

I mean, his body of work is small, how do you evaluate him on one season other than it was awful.

No thanks. More attractive candidates out there.

Sure. These guys would be the obvious answer, especially if we want to win games, but the Rooney’s have proven in the past that they don’t require a proven track record or culture of winning. He could be an ideal candidate.

With all the great, young candidates that are available to interview and bring here as the head coach, why would the team be interested in a coach that was replaced for having a horrible record and under a new head coach are now one of the best teams in the NFL in a very short time?

It simply doesn't make any sense.

On the surface it doesn’t, but a decade or two ago, I remember there was this one team that selected this guy who had no proven HC experience or even much of a body of work at all for that matter. Despite not being good at time management, controlling a locker room, beating teams with subpar records, or winning games that matter, this guy was allowed to stick around year after year after year. He would just show up to the post game briefs make his eyes look real big and say witty things that made him sound tough. Much of the media ate that up and insisted he was a good HC despite what I had mentioned.

For the life of me, I can’t remember which team it was at the moment, but it will come to me.

No thank you. I’m an avid TN Vols fan and appreciate his play @ UT and his time @ New England. But, his sample size is too small to be head coach for the Steelers.

Idk if he would be able to put together an elite staff.

You bitched about Tomlin every chance you got because he couldn't win (playoff) games but you want to replace him with someone who was let go because he couldn't win games???

Mayo does have head coaching experience, and it was so bad they fired him after one season.

Mike Tomlin had no experience as a head coach, but they saw something in him. They hired him and he was the face of the franchise for 19 seasons.

These are the two men you are trying to compare?

People are throwing this around far too much. They've done it twice. A sample size of 2 doesn't prove ****. For all we know the Rooney's strongly preferred experience, but both Cowher and Tomlin blew them away in the interviews.
