What could the Steelers get in a trade for DK Metcalf?

I don't think so.

My understanding is that his guarantees were automatically voided. So his salary next season is no longer guaranteed.

But they can't void his entire contract.

They can cut him (would be a bad decision IMO and the team said they won't). But that would still have cap ramifications.

New Head Coach, New OC, and New QB. I think everyone on the team will be getting a reset this year. Don't immediately trade DK until you see what he does with the new Coaches.


One of the reasons I hated the George Pickens trade, is the Steelers never gave George an opportunity to play with Aaron Rodgers. George had gone on record saying his dream QB was Aaron Rodgers; playing for his Dream QB, may have settled George Pickens behavior down for a year.

We trade him away and we will get to listen to 4 months of people saying that was an idiot decision, just like with Pickens.

He has his issues, but he is good and we need to add to what we have, not make the lack of top WRs an even bigger problem by getting rid of him......IMO

Also, we have a 3rd round WR on the team right now. Missed his first season entirely and had a whopping 12 catches on 20 targets for this season. So getting another 3rd round WR might not fill much of a hole. Then we can go to the season with a couple of #2.5s and 3s for our WR room. Whatever QB we have next year will love that I am sure.

 

While the Steelers did say they were standing by him, Metcalf did void the contract with his actions. So it would become a question of, did the Steeler's verbal support constitute a verbal contract? If not, then I would think the ball is entirely with the Steelers as I really doubt there is something in the current contract that requires action within a set time period.

 

I think more than anything, the next head coach needs to clean the mental trash off this team.
