Mike Tomlin is stepping down from the Steelers

I mean unless we hit gold on this next one, we're about to find out and hope we don't have a run of crap HC's.

Baltimore's Owner perked up like a lightbulb when he got the news Tomlin was stepping down from the Steelers.

 

We're going to get Notre Dames coach

 

Mike Tomlin, thank you for all the money I made betting on the Steelers as underdogs.
(And damn you for all the money I lost betting on us as favorites)

 

Sure.

But the Ravens job is the better opening. MVP QB. Defense that’s a piece or two away. Loyal and dedicated but mainly hands off owner. Excellent front office.

That’s all I’m saying. It’s not the best job on the market.

 

If you combine right now and in the long run,I agree for the ravens

But I am sure,that many good will consider the Steelers because of their history of being patient, even though they don't have a quarterback right now.

This job is much better than the Raiders, Cardinals, Browns, Titans, and Dolphins if you consider everything, including the owners' patience.

As for the rest, there are the Falcons and Giants... So the Steelers are top 4 in the worst-case scenario.

That’s what I was trying to get at in my original post. If Steelers are willing to give a new regime a couple of seasons to get it all in place; then a good coach could build something.

If the team wants to continue demanding to compete for division titles and make the playoffs each year; then it’s a crap job. One of only so many so someone will gladly take it but kinda crappy nonetheless.

We’re gonna find out who didn’t want to rebuild. And ask yourself what it looks like if it wasn’t only Tomlin that didn’t want to rebuild?

 

It was time but not a fix- all thing. I live in Commanders country and watch one coach after another come and go. Decisions from up top need to be better.

Man oh man. I needed some time to digest this news. I'm grateful for the SB runs and Killer Bs team. My favorite Mike T moment was when I went to the 2010 AFCTG. It was a great run and amazing memories. I wish Mike the best in his future endeavors.

It's definitely time for a fresh start and can't wait for what the future provides.

Agreed. The next coach wont be as lucky as tomlin was inheriting a good team. New coach will have his work cut out for him but with the right guy they'll be alright. Anxious to see what the future holds even if it takes a while.

 

If he's one of the greatest ever, that was a giant dump on all NFL coaches, past and present. Sounds like they're all equally worthless if Tomlin is one of the greatest.

 

Especially when almost half the teams int he league make the playoffs. This isn't 1970 playoff field these days.

Those two goals are not mutually exclusive.

And besides, the Steelers usually start a new HC with a 4 year contract so there is plenty of time to construct a roster and determine if the coach is on the right path.

 

They're going to have to do something about the facilities if they want free agents to come in now. Mike Tomlin was well respected enough that players wanted to come play for him.

 

I think it was time for Tomlin to go, but also appreciate the totality of his career.

I agree that it isn’t as simple as “addition-by-subtraction”. I am hopeful we pick a good one next.

 

I agree he deserves a rest. These coaches give up alot of their life for the coaching profession. As I posted in another thread, he was a stellar human being
and hope his future is bright.

 

They have pretty nice facilities now, maybe larger one maybe in the plans?
