Going for Wilson and Rodgers was a mistake

Sure, they threw more TD’s.. until it was crunch time and we needed them the most.

Same record, same lackluster finishes.

We need a young QB, don’t care if he doesn’t show anything the first year. We have to invest in youth and develop these guys or we will continue to look like ass in the playoffs.

Stop expecting a Purdy or Big Ben rookie season and accept that our QB will need time to grow into something solid if not special.

Stop going after old vets and coach up these young players. Mistakes will be made. Let them learn from them instead of taking hats from them and giving up on them.

Watt.. whatt do we do with all this money invested in a player on the backside of his career?

Heyward? Thank you for your service but you also are responsible for meddling with the offense and bringing in old vets who make you sleep better at night but just don’t have anything left in the tank at the end of seasons.

The running game? Its not good fella’s. The OL needs work and we can’t get happy because of page 2 stat lines. We need 100 yard games. Not 52% win rates.

 

Need a good offensive coach with the young QB too otherwise this young QB will fail for sure

 

When you roll the dice on 40-something QB's... you accept those challenges.
We got pretty good play for a 42-year-old Rogers. I don't fault him.
What I fault is that the decision makers had zero backup plan and zero solutions.
They didn't even give him weapons to make up for his declining skills.

Mr. Rooney needs to evaluate Top-Down.

Seriously though, if we keep getting the same results its a mistake. Older QB’s aren’t the move. Makes for a good story and a few plays but overall, its not a winning formula.

 

It's not easy to find a franchise QB. The Bears have been searching for one for 60 years. The Jets are still trying to replace Namath. I thought we got pretty good production out of Rodgers for most of the season, especially considering we only have one halfway decent receiver on the roster. He didn't play well yesterday but the game plan made it too easy to defend our offense...as usual. When we go up against top defenses, the no-go middle of the field strategy really hamstrings us. It's easy for a good defense to stop the run and guard the perimeters of the field.

 

The problem with AR is that he was good for one year. Now were back to square one. Steelers picked him and Russ up because they were cheap short term rentals who Tomlin thought, gave him a chance at a real playoff run.

it may have worked with AR but like others have said, we didnt put the right pieces around him.

our coaching staff is subpar, that doesn't help either

 

Rodgers signing would be fine if the Steelers had their franchise QB as an understudy, aka Rodgers/Love. Unfortunately for the Steelers the timing between drafting the future and Rodgers' ending are not in sync.

 

I think most of us agree with you on the QB part. I will disagree about the run game though.

we had 18 carries for 63 yards.

Texans had 164 yards on the ground.

This run game is wack. It’s bottom 3rd in the league. I don’t want to hear about “if we ran more” because we didn’t and there is a reason for that.

Record wise, it hasn't made a difference.

But it did make the offense at least watchable. Which wasn't the case when Kenny was QB.

We obviously need to acquire an above average QB.

I appreciate that the team didn't keep trying to "throw good money after bad" when they realized that Kenny wasn't an NFL QB (at least a starter). And their actions made if very obvious they wanted nothing to do with bringing Wilson back despite the nice things Rooney said about wanting to bring back one of their QBs from 2024.

We'll see what they do with Rodgers.

I've said that I probably prefer Rodgers to whatever else is out there (e.g. Malik Willis). But if there's something they think is a reasonable gamble, I'm Ok with that too. We're not competing for anything more than a WC berth anyway.

I don't want to draft a QB just to draft a QB either. We wasted 2 years doing that last time (thankfully only 2 years because we were quick to cut bait).

We'll likely have to decide on Rodgers before the draft anyway. And I'd rather have him in place. We aren't going to get a turnkey QB in the draft this year at 21. And I don't think we'll be able to move up very far either.

But I worry that we'll try to do something re: QB no matter what because the draft is in Pittsburgh.

 

I don't think it's a case of being stubborn.

I think it's a case of them treating the team like a business instead of running it like a fan.

They are looking for consistent revenue over building a SB winning team.

Same as they did between Bradshaw and Ben. Just it was easier to be legit competitors without a marquee QB then.

 

I wasn't talking about just the one game.

The passes to our RBs were a major part of the offense this season. We averaged over 100 yards on the ground plus whatever the RB passing yards were. In comparison, the 49ers averaged 4 yards more on the ground than us per game. The run game is more than just handing the ball off behind the LOS.
