In 50 years this is saddest time, all things considered, to be a Steeler fan. Ownership who is trapped in thinking they have a great coach when what they have is a good coach who most players and media love. They believe all the Tomlin love makes him unfireable. They are are afraid to act on this obvious topped out coach who has reached his ceiling 7 or 8 years ago.
I saw somewhere that Noll had a head coaching tree of 4 or 5 and Cowher had a tree of 7 or 8. Tomlin has zero in 19 years! One sign of a good leader is they make and enable people below them in rank to excel and advance and move on to greater things. There is no evidence of that. Another sign is you get the best people you can find to be on your staff and you are not afraid of smart strong personalities working under you. There is no evidence of that. I've never felt MT ever wanted the brightest and best on his staff.
The Rooney's are afraid to start over. Take a note from the Ravens owner. It has to happen. If a team and organization ever needed to start over, it's this one.
I said on another thread, if I was Rooney, I would call my friends the Mara's and do everything I could to trade Tomlin and a 3rd or something to the Giants for their first. With all the draft capital this year and being in Pittsburgh, tremendous opportunity to start with a clean slate.
The Rooney's can't see it or don't want to see it but this franchise is begging for a new start.

Steelers used to be about running the ball and stopping the run, until they can back to that it is sad times ahead.
