Based on watching the playoff games, my initial impression on Chambliss as a pro prospect is in between what I’m seeing here. I think there’s a point in the 3rd round (maybe late second) where he becomes a very attractive lottery ticket. I think AQL’s assessment is harsh, but there are still some good observations there on his potential weaknesses. I think saying he is worth a late 1st is a stretch. I think the chances of him being a Tyrod Taylor type of backup are pretty good. I’m less convinced that he has a decent probability of being a good long term starter. But, that’s just based on watching games on live TV. Hopefully I’ll have time to dig more deeply.

Kiper has him the 4th ranked QB in the draft.

That is where I'd put him. If he's around in round 2, maybe we take a shot?

I really like him a lot. He can run but only does so when there's no other option. He's got a live accurate arm, can throw from the pocket, can throw on the run. I would be happy to see him in Black and Gold next year.

It would be a wild rise for that kid. Go from 0 star recruit to D2 champ at Ferris State, transfer to Ole Miss, get the starting job due to an injury early in the season, then ball your way out to the final 4 and get drafted. Good for that kid.

The part that intrigues me is his character and leadership as well. Idk. The more I see about the kid, the more I like about him. There are true size limitations, but that's been overcome before. We would have to get an offensive style to match his game (probably heavy PA, heavy RPO type), but it could work. We will see what happens with his appeal and what his true draft stock is. I bet it varies pretty wildly from team to team.

Maybe he could fit with a new Steeler coaching staff.

Chambliss is a significantly better prospect than Tyrod.

The thing with Chambliss is that he's only had one season under tough competition, this year at Ole Miss. He will need significant time to adjust to NFL speed and toughness. He does not need to be developed into a QB like Tyrod, or some of the poor college quarterback. He simply needs adjustment games through which he may struggle. Similar to Dart.

Just heard he hired a lawyer and threaten to sue, he got his 6th year granted. He'll be at Ole Miss next season.

He has hired a lawyer, but he hasn't won his case yet.

Strange thing is, I heard it on the radio show driving home after work, that the NCAA changed their verdict and granted his appeal. The next day, some coworkers were talking about just that. Do they apparently heard that as well. I made the joke that he got his 6th year eligibility and immediately hit the transfer portal.
    All that happened.

Today, after reading your post, I looked and can't find anything about him winning his appeal. Now I have to add radio sports talk to the list of things I can't believe anymore, like the internet and tv. It'a sad day for me.

I pass on short QBs, especially short QBs that don't throw well.

One of the knocks against him is he Tends to bail from clean pockets prematurely when his first read isn't immediately available, abandoning sound structure and relying on improvisation rather than working through progressions with patience and discipline.

I would take him as a WR.

What do you mean doesn't throw well? He started in 13 games and averaged 298 yards a game passing in those games while completing 66% of his passes... He had 8 games over 300 yards and only one game under 250 (apparently his lone awful game was a 30-14 win against S. Carolina where he threw for 159 on 12/21 passing). The kid can sling it, and sling it with accuracy.

He really developed throughout the year, and was throwing with timing, anticipation and accuracy in the CFP. He also shows really good poise in the pocket most of the time. Its a small sample size (13 starts in D1, spending most of his career at Ferris State), but he really showed himself well. I get the criticisms (and they are fair criticisms), that he has fewer reads in his system, tends to prefer improv over structure, etc. But if he can continue to develop, I think he has a lot of potential. It's hard to watch him play and not see a young Russell Wilson. Chambliss would be a more "developmental" prospect, but in a QB friendly system that can get him on the move a decent bit... I don't see why he couldn't become an exciting NFL starter.
