I'm not buying it I remember when Jay Glazer who is supposed to know Tomlin pretty good was saying this crap a few years ago, then Tomlin signs an extension.

It's hard to compare Payton with Tomlin. Payton only went to one SB , had five losing seasons, and had Brees his whole time, but one year. JMO

Payton lost a playoff game to a 7-9 team.

Here is my whole thing, and I know people say I Love him, but just because I preach the truth doesn't mean, I Love ,or hate someone.
I have searched, and searched, and I can't find a HC that has been fired that has been to two SBs, and has never had a losing season. I'm not sure a owner wants to be the 1st to fire a person with that type of record.
It would be like firing a guy at your job who never misses a day, and is always above an average worker, and has sometimes shown to be your best worker.
With that said, I will root for whomever is the HC.

Not saying Rooney will fire Tomlin. More suggesting Tomlin decides to walk away.

If Red Sox nation can forgive Buckner, I can get behind Tomlin. Go win us a SB and we’re all good.

This can narrative can certainly change this Monday, but up until this point Tomlin is a star student that turns in all of his homework and aces pop quizzes, but then for the past 9 years he's completely nuked the final. For the season he turned in his homework and aced a few of the pop quizzes, but the all important final still looms. Adversity builds character, I hope Tomlin rises to the challenge and puts this narrative behind him and kicks the Texans azz.

If Tomlin gets blown up by Texans at home, boo birds will be back. However, I don’t think Rogers will let that happen. This season is more about Rogers and Cam and to certain extent TJ doing their last hurrah than Tomlin.

And Belichick lost to Mark Sanchez, never beat Cam Newton. Ever. So your point is??
Because I can do this for every HC.

It is possible that Tomlin was leaking this stuff through Glazer in order to pressure/leverage the Rooney's for the extension. Lots of games being played in contract talks....

This is definitely a possibility. Because exactly like You said , the games are many that is played on both sides during contract talks.

It is because there aren't any coaches that have never had a losing season. Its a weird criteria. There is precedent that someone like Tomlin be fired because a guy who is just as good as him (and has a very similar resume to Tomlin) in John Harbaugh just got fired by Baltimore. Harbaugh had 18 years' tenure, a SB win, and 17 of those 18 years were at least 8 wins (3 were considered losing seasons as he had a 5 win year, and two 8-9 seasons... both of which saw extended time missed by Lamar). If Harbaugh can be fired, so can Tomlin.

I don't have an opinion yet on what we should do with Tomlin since our season is still going. If we get blown out in the playoffs again, I could see us wanting to move on. If we lose a close game, I can see us tentatively holding on another year in "wait and see" mode. If we win in the post season or make a little run, I am sure we will extend Tomlin (if he wants to continue coaching). Tomlin leaving drastically changes the future of the franchise (although it doesn't necessarily mean in a bad way).

Of course, I will also cheer for whoever the HC is... but I think there's a chance we can upgrade. There's also a chance we miss and downgrade. Such is life when making a hire at HC. The HC talent pool is pretty good right now. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the guys hired this cycle be successful wherever they go.

Its what I would've done if I were Tomlin... Use public perception against them. Make them think you are considering leaving to force them to the table (or give them reason to up the salary/term).

Yes they are close if you leave out the two SB appearance, and the never losing seasons but me and H. Jackman are pretty close if You leave off the millions of dollars. So....LoL

I don't see being the case as Tomlin himself turns around and tells Eisen he wants to coach yada yada. Why would he willingly destroy the leverage his team created for him? His team could certainly be feeding NYC media potential interest in the Giants gig as a means to get more FO power with the Steelers tho.

They have a similar win percentage, both have won a SB, and are tenured basically the same. They're about as close as you can get to the same thing (millions of dollars included). They also had 3 playoff wins over a span of 6 years with high caliber rosters (Tomlin in the mid 2010's and Harbaugh the last 6 years). They're exceptionally close to the exact same.

Harbaugh has 5 more wins in the postseason despite coaching one less year (and a winning playoff record vs a losing one), and even though Tomlin has been to 2 SB's he's gone to the same number of AFCCG's as Harbaugh (Harbaugh has just lost 2 of them, one of those to us his first year coaching). They both have things they do better than the other. They're basically the same.

    Saw this from another poster:

5 year comparison between Harbs and Tomlin:

Killer B era for Tomlin (2013-2018) | Lamar Era for Harbs (2020-2025)

Both won 62 games in that span
    Harbs +581 points diff | Tomlin +396
    Both won 3 playoff games
    Both went to 1 AFCCG
    Both with 3-4 playoff record
Harbs 2 division titles | Tomlin 3 division titles
    Both had 4 playoff appearances
