This is a necro post from September

If anyone wants to know why Austin wasn’t more involved in the offense while Metcalf was in the penalty box the finger apparently points right at Austin.

Keep in mind the great receivers want the ball and want to be involved in the play calling. Not Austin apparently.

I heard a very disturbing comment on the Pat McAfee show this morning from an Aaron Rodgers interview.

Rodgers said during the game he would repeatedly ask Austin what route he wanted where did he want the ball and Austin would not respond. He would just say “ah umm” etc. but he never would answer the question.

On the touchdown catch Rodgers asked him multiple times and Austin just stood there saying nothing so finally Mason McCormick spoke up and said “Let’s go for the kill so Rodgers called the play.

No wonder they brought in Thielen and MVS. They are veterans who I suspect would speak up when called upon and they would want the ball.

CAIII will be a FA shortly. I don’t see the Steelers resigning him unless it’s vet minimum and as number 5.

If true, that is nuts. He would certainly be able to get better than league minimum on his second contract. He is not going to get WR1 pay, maybe not even WR2 pay......but he has been a solid player for us and I would think he could get 2 to 4 million a year. But if that is the level of his drive, he is destined for league minimum and it is criminal that the coaching staff has allowed that kind of apathy to exist on the team for 4 years.

A WR that isn’t calling for the ball or always open… didn’t think they existed. He needs to put a VCR tape and watch some MJ, everyone knew he was getting ball, he told the coach to give him the dam ball and everyone on the opposition knew was getting it and no one would stop it, that is greatness.

On a similar note, do you know the difference between ignorance and apathy?

Well I don't know and honestly I don't care.

Totally out of context. Watch Rodgers post game interview. He essentially says Austin is the sweetest and kindest human. Sounds more like shyness, certainly not unwillingness. Rodgers also says amazing things about Muth

This exactly. It’s not that he wouldnt answer, he just didnt have a route preference when Rodgers asked him. So Rodgers picked it.

I am going to stick with apathy. I have seen so many dumb people that think they are the smartest person in the room..........dumb people frequently greatly over value themselves and their abilities.......lol

I really hope so. I have never gotten that vibe from the limited actions I have seen from him. He seems to play hard on every play. I like him. He might not be a WR1, but he has been a dependable WR for us and has even made some very nice plays.

In the heat of battle If you ask someone a question you want them to answer. It’s not the time to be sweet and shy.

Regardless, it’s not that he didnt want the ball.

The little guy had a big game last night. That slant catch on our last drive was big to get us started.

I was told CA3 who had the 4th most yards receiving on our team this year didn't matter that we didn't have him, and DK just this week by some loudmouths.
    Imagine that

This guys 4 year rookie deal is up and he has 84 total catches. If you sign him, what do you offer? He's a #5 or 6 realistically. Van Jefferson got $1.6 million this year to be a bottom of the roster guy. Their stats were very similar. Austin had 2 more catches and 20 more yards. I wouldn't give him more than a 2 year deal for $5 million.

I’d like to keep Austin, but he really needs to be a 3rd WR, not a 2. He’s very capable as we see when he gets opportunities. He damn near broke Awuzie’s ankles with that juke step on the winning TD. He’s also a team player and willing blocker despite his size.

I think he can be a good WR3.

He ran a nice route here. And didn't drop it when he was wide open (which even happens to pros sometimes).

I wouldn't mind keeping him around if he's cheap, but I don't know what his contract would look like. Wouldn't break the bank or tie us for too long term.... Still would like to draft one early and draft one in the mid rounds too. DK/Skowronek/Austin/Draft Pick/Draft Pick/Vet Mentor would look pretty cool at WR. I'd be all about bringing JJSS back on a one year deal as the mentor. I could see him getting some run as a blocker and third/fourth option in the offense too.
