I like the fact that Warren has had less carries. He is fresher this time of year when it matters more.

Imagine if he could handle a heavier workload like Harris. Too bad he can't.

Also, the average per carry is 4.5, not 4.6.

We didn’t even lose the fumble he had. Not bad at all. He had basically 1300 all purpose yards, a high YPC, and 8 total TD’s. We absolutely made the right choice paying him over Najee. We chose the better player. Add in the fact that Gainwell was a good weapon in his own right with over 1000 all purpose yards in a RB2 role, and the RB room was impressive.

If we can get Gainwell re-signed, a Warren lead - Gainwell tandem backfield will look awesome for us.

I wouldn’t trade either back we have straight up for Najee. The RB room was a massive win for the Khan/Weidl and they were vindicated in their decision with their play on the field. Kudos.

The tandem worked great. Didn’t need a massive workload for either of them to get awesome production. The efficiency on a per carry basis for both of them was awesome too.

Thats your opinion and a weak one. You really think that guy cant handle a heavier workload with that build.

They clearly like divvying up the workload like they have been doing. Very few true workhorses anymore.

I was on record at the time of wanting to find a way to have both Warren and Najee for 2025 (in favor of exercising the option). I was wrong. We may not have signed Gainwell had we retained Najee. Both are just flat out better players than Najee on tape. Sure, prior to this season you could count on Najee trudging out there snap after snap, and occasionally making solid plays, but mostly getting what the blocking gave him - or less given his lack of vision. Najee is an ok RB, but I like our duo much better than a duo of Najee + one of Gainwell or Warren.

He's pretty good, but I still think his best role is the 40 in a 60/40 split. Gainwell also excels in this role.

I was hoping that Johnson would contribute this year and grow into the 60 role. But he and Wilson have been huge disappointments this year.

    Yep
I was hoping for the 40/40/40 split among the 3 this year too

Thank god the Steelers weren’t dumb enough to give Harris the 5th

They need Johnson to be that power back next season in short yardage situations don't think Gainwell is really suited for that role.

Same here. I thought there were too many positions to address without adding RB to the mix. The option cost wasn't unreasonable, and Harris was a rock in terms of durability and ball security. But for as nimble as they were last offseason I don't understand why the WR2 slot wasn't addressed. When they traded Pickens I defended it, thinking they were going to break out Wilson and Austin. Flash forward to now, and I was wrong on that, too.

It hurts because for as well as Warren and Gainwell have done, their combined touches were the second lowest for our top two backs in five years (2022), and the percentage of rushing plays (41.2%) was the lowest since Ben's last year. (36.6%). That's understandable given that neither Warren nor Gainwell are bell cows, but then they should've added a more dynamic piece to the receiver room to offset it.

The touches and team rushing rates since 2021:

    2021
    Harris: 381
    Snell: 111
    Total: 492

    Rush %: 36.6 (31st)

    2022
    Harris: 313
    Warren: 105
    Total: 418

    Rush %: 45.1 (13th)

    2023
    Harris: 284
    Warren: 210
    Total: 494

    Rush %: 46.7 (5th)

    2024
    Harris: 299
    Warren: 158
    Total: 457

    Rush %: 48.3 (5th)

    2025
    Warren: 251
    Gainwell: 187
    Total: 438

    Rush %: 41.2 (25th)
