That’s actually the likely scenerio. Steelers barely win tonight an then get blown out next week because this useless head coach can’t prepare a team for anything significant.

Guess the amount of replies to this thread shows that apathy is a minute problem

I’m giving you examples of postseason success with less than stellar QB play and you are countering with regular season wins. I’m totally appreciative of the fact as a fan I get to watch meaningful games late into the season but come on man, it’s been 8 years since a playoff win.

Pederson won a SB and then was fired and the guy they brought in got them to more SB’s. I dont get the aversion to trying to improve just because they might not win as many regular season games. They might not or they might do even better.

I said as a OC. I pointed out he had mixed results as a HC and could be better as a coordinator. I have other candidates in mind for HC but as I have saiid before, probably none of the names we are thinking of will end up being the HC when the time comes. It likely wont be a household name.

With injuries, Kingsbury puts out Les offensive production than Smith.

from what I’ve seen the gap between Mariota and Rodgers is not big if it even exists at all.

Wven with injuries, skill positions are a push?

    so equal talent less production.

    can’t wait to hire him.

I’m not talking regular season at all.

I’m talking post season. You have basically proven my point. There’s 4 teams in 25 seasons that teams made a big playoff push without a high talent QB.

so like 4 teams out of roughly 350.

those are the odds folks seem to be expecting to hit season in and season out.

As much as I hate to praise them, I think Harbaugh and the Rats did an excellent job crafting an offense for Lamar.

I also think that bad HCs can tank a team even if it has talent.

But a HC can only drag a team so far if they don't have a QB.

    Re: Kenny

We did try with Kenny. Hard. But the guys in the locker room gave up on him. His inability to throw TDs drove DJ insane. And defensive leaders on the team spent an offseason begging Wilson to come in and save him after Kenny's play made Mason (a career backup) look like Tom Brady.

Unfortunately for us, Kenny just sucks. I suppose it's a failure of scouting (which falls on the HC and the GM). But we needed a QB and were hoping that the best of a bad class would at least be passable.

I used to think Kenny would be an average to above average backup. And I was completely wrong. I'm not sure he's even an NFL player anymore.

Outplayed by the 3rd stringer here and in PHI. Browns traded him away after an offseason where he would have been their 4th QB (at best). Outplayed and outsnapped by yet another 3rd string QB today in O'Connel.

The truth is that our super-risk averse system made Kenny look better than he is (and Wilson, and Fields, and Mason, and Duck, and probably Mitch...even though he still looked horrible).

    Yep. There are some.

Often guys who end up landing in good situations IMO.

Sometimes that 4th in the division schedule is pretty soft too.

I keep laughing at all the crowning of HCs, and then in 3 year from then when they are fired, those same people crowning them now will get mad if You bring it up.
Yet every year they do it.

What do you mean, you keep praising his regular season accolades and claiming no one can win with these QB’s. I pointed out they can and have. Doesn’t matter how infrequently, it can be done.

And you dont have to look any further than our own history, most of Cowhers tenure was without a franchise QB and he had a better coaching career than Tomlin who DID had a Frachise QB most of his tenure. Tomlin is not the only coach that can win with poor QB’s.

People can and do win the lottery.

Expecting to win the lottery is not realistic.

Planning on winning the lottery is foolish.

The Steelers have been trying to thread a needle while juggling and walking a tightrope for 6 seasons now.

It’s not surprising when they fail.

Poor comparison but we aren’t going to agree on this.

Tomlin has been here 20 freaking years and his post season record over the last 15 years sucks. He’s the boss, bucks stops with him. Time to try someone else. But good news for you, he will be around one more year at the very least. Yay.

If he loses this round 1 game I could still possibly see him step down it’s not like the criticism will get better because they won a crappy division. Now if he wins a game and we look competitive during a playoff run I’ll eat crow and maybe he can do something I have given up hope on in the future.

Maybe if Rooney makes it known to him that they don’t intend to pick up his option he will walk away. One possible scenario I guess.

We’ll see, right now we are onto Houston :herewego:

I don't think Rodgers of this year is a bottom 5 QB...some game, maybe but if you look at the last 5 games,he has been good in 4 of those games. The only game he was awful,it was against the browns with a complete depleted wide receiving core

Bottom 5 for this year was like the Browns,Jets,Raiders,Titans, vikings and other that I forget others right now.....I would take the current version of Rodgers over Tua too.I don't think we would won 4 of the last 5 games in the same context with Tua.

Rodgers was good in the first 5 games, this is true he was like a bottom 10 QB in the next 6 games but after that,he was above average in 4 of the final 5 games despite his limitation

The overall talent on the team is better than he gives it credit for. Has been in years past, too minus Pickett and Wilson who was clearly washed.
