You guys are fast, was just coming to post that.

If not HC wonder if he’d be open to a lateral move for DC.

I’m personally hoping for an offensive minded HC this time around but Shula is an interesting name for sure.

Is S.T.D available? I’ve heard he knows a lot about football.

I agree about the HC being from an offensive mind. But getting Shula and, if he brings the Rams offensive philosophy with him, plus an assistant from that side of the ball, I could get excited about that. Plus the Steelers would be digging up some coaching tree roots as Chuck Noll coached under Don Shula.

He's definitely not open to a lateral move, unless he can't get other jobs, and even still I'm sure he'd stay in LA. Good thing about Shula is he's tied to the Rams staff and bring a few of the offensive minds to the staff with him in some capacity.

For me?! It is an Offensive Minded HC or bust. Chris Shula or not, that is what the NFL is currently trending at. This isn't the 2000s where the rules were slanted to favor the Defense. Every rule since the 2011 CBA has been purposely designed to favor the Offense; the rise of the Offensive Minded Head Coaches coinciding with this.

If Tomlin is to stay another year, Teryl Austin needs to go. If anything, Omar Khan needs to hire the DC this time around; namely one from a winning Organization. Cory Undlin from the Houston Texans would be a good start. He has had success in both San Francisco and Houston. Ryan Nielsen from the Buffalo Bills is another. If heading to the likes of Los Angeles yet again, Giff Smith would be worth a look as well.

Personally, I'd like to see a new HC, Shula or whomever, given the freedom to build an entirely new staff.

I’d take a chance on him. Isn’t STD short for standard, as in the standard is the standard?

Sign me up for Mike Lafleur, brother of Matt, OC of the Rams.

He's young, great pedigree, OC of an elite offense. Hell, hire Lafleur and maybe he brings Shula with him.

Do really think that Khan has more juice then Bags Tomlin? He doesn't. Bags is not going to relinquish his hold on the defense.

They had that chance with Flores. And he was IN the house.

If they let Austin's contract to expire and don't extend him some other puppet will be hired. Unfortunately. Or they will extend Austin for another year.

The Tale of the Tape will be if the gummy worm owner picks up Bags Tomlin's extra year. If not, when Bags is gone like you said and I have been saying as well to hire an Offensive minded innovative Head Coach! Clean house and he brings in his own assistants. Fresh start to wash off the stench of this stale archaic system.

People living in the moment. It just has to be a OC mindset HC. LoL
Yet if I show all the OC mindset HCs that have failed in the last 5 years, somehow that means nothing.
Give me a Defensive mindset HC any day.

    Keep Tomlin.

Move Austin out to pasture. Or kick him upstairs to special assistant to the whatever.

Hire Jim Leonard as DC. Half the defense absolutely flourished under him at Wisconsin. He has a track record of squeezing every ounce of results out of a relatively flawed defense using a 3-4 alignment. Leonard is basically designed in a laboratory to be a Steelers defensive coordinator.

Give Smith and company on offense another season.

Colbert's drafting has caught up to us. You can only get so much out of a flawed roster.

Only about half dozen players left from his tenure.

Khan/Weidl have 3 drafts under their belts already.

The game is heavily tilted towards offense, it just makes sense to have coaches that can get the most out of that side of the ball.

Just because you have an offensive minded coach doesn’t mean you still cant field a good defense.

It really comes down to the trenches, the team that dominates that will have a huge advantage, just look at the two teams that beat the Chiefs in the SB.

Thats why I am in favor of the Steelers building that portion of the team first and feel they are doing a good job with it.

I do agree with this. I want a young HC that has the ability to hire young innovative minds from the opposite side of the field they're from. I'm not opposed to a guy like Klint Kubiak or Chris Shula. They both own the side of the ball of the teams they coach for. That fact alone is why both are top candidates this cycle. I prefer Chris Shula because of the house he's coming from and the plethora of options at his disposal to become OC. And that's not to say Kubiak can't find a potential DC from Seattle or San Francisco's current staff. I'd say my biggest issue with Shula is piecing together our personnel to his 43/335 defense.
