i read mike adams will not be ready to practice when camp opens.

we can't even start the same 5 before we start camp. they said a couple of weeks maybe.

this can't be a good thing and we may just ride with another tackle early on this year. adams needs the work. i'm not sure he made himself a fixture yet at any position so far.

could this open a spot for embernate? malecki? golic? cheadle? hubbard? would we move foster to RT? they want to have beachum as the swing guy across the board, so would we be better off doing this or maybe moving whimper, farrell or long in there for now? or go with beachum?

Moving Foster to RT tackle would just add more instability. They'll keep moving forward with the status quo while Whimper and possibly Beachum get more reps at rt. Adams will be the starting RT by the season opener.

I saw that in Bouchette's chat today.

Can you provide any information on Mike Adams' recovery and participation at training camp?

Ed Bouchette: Yes. He's not likely to practice right away as his abdomen continues to heal and he must regain that core strength. However, I'm told he should be ready to start the season and all is going on schedule for him.

    Strummer summarized my thoughts succinctly.

i hope so, but i wondered about this before. will he be ready? will he be healed enough to play pro football at a high level? we are not talking a normal injury here. not to mention his head also concentrating on court, lawyer visits, rehab. this all takes away from him concentrating on just football. which he's not really up to speed with yet.

it's still a distraction for a very green player along with the injuries.

steeler depot had a thing on it too. he had surgery for a ripped (stabbed) colon less then 8 weeks ago. thats a pretty invasive surgery to go along with stab wounds. we are not talking about a stroll through the park on sundays.

I dunno... I heard it wasn`t gonna be a big deal, and he would be ready for camp.
Always felt like that was wishful thinking. Surgery to to repair a lacerated colon is no joke.
They are cutting into the very guts of your body.
Also, I`m not sure tha he has to "worry" about details of his conduct that evening coming out, since it sounds like he was clearly the victim...
But this is gonna get UGLY once the defense lawyers have their time in court... His story has already changed, from the initial report, according to what I read here...
    http://www.post-gazette.com/stories...bing-of-steelers-adams-held-for-trial-695957/
Sounds like the court is on his side, but as I said when the story broke...
Nuthin good happens after midnight... He could have saved himself a lotta hassle, by bein a good boy, and bein at home in the wee hours of the morning...
Granted, he`s a grown man, and I am all about "he should have the freedom to conduct his life as he chooses"...
Still, bottom line is he put himself in an environment that led to this(as any grown man should feel free to do.. if it was any of us that got stabbed, it would probably have barely made the local paper, in a 2 sentence, "crime report")...
I`m not blaming him at all, just pointing out, that he IS now a high profile athlete, and might wanna think about how that affects ALL aspects of his life.
I have a feeling this trial is gonna come down to a LOT of mudslinging from the attourneys for the defendants...
They have already said they are going to show that Adams instigated the incident.
As I have said before... I`m not judging. I wasn`t there... I have no clue what happened.
But I still feel this is gonna be UGLY, with a capital "Uuhhgghh", once the assailant`s lawyers start insinuating things, and trying to show how their poor clients reacted to a dangerous, big, man, out on the town for a night.
So, yeah, I think he does have SOMETHING to worry about. Just basic attacks on his character/reputation, and how he is gonna be perceived by people from the coverage of this trial.
Whether he did anything wrong, or not!
Gee, do you think the lawyers will manage to mention his failed marijuana test at the combine?
    Dammit...
I just hope he somehow manages to seperate all this drama from his focus on becoming a better lineman, `cause he still clearly needs to work on that.
I think he has the physical tools to do it, and he should physically heal to be able to perform his duties, by at least the start of the season, or thereabouts.
But it`s bound to be more difficult, with this off-field crap complicating things...
Yeah, I think he has reason to worry, and he can`t just "pay other people to worry about it"..
Dude just needs to FOCUS on football!:praying::steelflag:

Adams has zip to worry about, sheesh. The guy was the victim of an attempted carjacking and stabbed, open and shut case. What are the defense attorneys going to do, say he goaded them into trying to steel his truck by dancing in front of it and dangling the keys???? And I don't care that he was out after midnight, he's a young kid and it's the offseason, I don't believe these guys have to lead a life of a covenant just because they play professional sports.

As for being ready for the season, not worried, I seem to recall the line playing it's best when he was in there last season, he'll be fine.

In terms of a critical player who needed an offseason of work to get better... was there a worse player to get stabbed?

Critical position, a guy with high potential but a long way to go and major flaws in his game and thin depth behind him... I'm struggling to think who would have been worse. He needs every rep he can get. He already missed a bunch of time last year. Assuming we're talking about no missed game time and only practice time, Mike Adams might have been the last guy I'd pick to be stabbed :(

I don't even see a silver lining in getting Beachum reps there, because I'd rather Beachum focus on other spots, especially OC. I guess if there's any silver lining, it's that other guys like Golic and Long will get a couple more reps after a domino effect.

Ah well, I hope he gets back out there ASAP and plays in the preseason.

Its a shame, he needs lots of reps. as does the rest of our line. I would be interested to know if these OL have gained any strength over the off season? That and footwork/agility. I guess we will just have to wait
and see.I am hoping the new OL coach has done alot of coaching up of these players, they will need it. This new OL coach maybe the most important person the Steelers have brought into the organization this past off season.

it's been said they have been lifting as a group, so that's a good thing.

i agree that adams has already missed mini-camp, hasen't been working out with the bunch, and needs every rep he can get, which isn't going to happen.

i also believe it will be in the best interest of the line coach to have a backup plan whomever it may be and give that guy as many reps as possible too at RT. what really hurts is adams needed reps at both tackle spots since he was the next up at LT. someone else will gain valuable reps because of this. maybe long. we need another LT/RT swing man. he or whimper.

we had the puoncey hat incident and the adams stabbing and we just got to camp. c'mon man.

It is very unfortunate about Adams incident with the robbers. But he definitely needs work. This will definitely put him behind because not only can't he lift weights to get stronger but his conditioning will suffer also. Not to mention reps he needs with his line mates. I can't remember the last time we starter with out entire offensive line intact at training camp and the first camp of the season. I know other teams have problems but this is getting unreal about the amount of issues over the years the oline has had. I guess it could be worst.

The sad thing is that Adams could have avoided this whole thing by simply yelling "That's my purse! I don't know you!" and kicking the dude right in the groin. But apparently he's never taken a women's self defense class at the YMCA.

Happily surprised to read that he is cleared for camp, after completing the conditioning test(or run test, I forget)...
They still didn`t say to what extent he would participate, but being actively involved is better than it sounded in gthe articles I read a day or two ago...
    BTW...
What is "KOTH"... Have to expose my ignorance on acryonyms, here...
    I agree, I laffed my ass off, when I read BFT`s post!:roflmao::thumbs_up::yeehaw:

"KOTH" means King of the Hill the tv show. There was an episode where Bobby was getting bullied and Hank told him to go to the YMCA to get lessons on how to fight and he does but all the men's classes are full so he takes a women's self defense course that says you should always yell really loud when someone tries to mug you and say "That's my purse! I don't know you!" and then kick them in the groin. So Bobby starts doing that to EVERYBODY and EVEN HANK and it's HILARIOUS!!! So that's what I was talking about.

good news on adams. he started lifting less then 2 weeks ago he said on the main page. he said about 6 weeks after the last surgery he started working on his stregnth. i'm sure on a limited basis. those are your stomach muscles that were cut. there will be scar tissue forming which may give some discomfort down the road, so i'm pretty sure he will work at it slowly as camp rolls on. he looks leaner thats for sure. maybe not a bad thing.:applaud:
