dwayne woodruff

i havent thought anything about him in years and was talking to a guy who thinks he is the most underappreciated steelers of all time. he was on some really bad teams and i didnt look but i think he made the pro bowl multiple times. i liked him alot. i just kinda forgot about alot of the players in the 80's. anyone else think he was top 5 corners in steelers history?

 

He was solid. Since I've been watching the Steelers in the mid-70s, he's one of the top 5.

 

There were a lot of great players in the 80s - in the grand scheme of things they were obviously a dark period, but we do tend to forget that a) for a lot of the 80s we were still competitive, and b) some of those guys we had would no doubt be on our all time lists had games gone slightly differently (against Denver and Miami in particular). Woodruff is certainly one of those guys.

 

Yeah he had 37 INT's too and three pick 6's. Or at least 3 touchdowns. I always liked him on our team.

i was newly married and my wife and i went to the game. ( couldn't tell you who they were playing) had to be 89 or 90.

we used two other tickets because two other people went with my dad and step mom and sat in our regular seats.

we sat in the little section that stuck out in the EZ in 3 rivers. it's where the players went in beside it. anyway what a blast that section was. i had never sat there before.

i guess we were 6-10 rows back and i had my wifes camera with the big lens on and as the half ran out woodruff intercepted a pass and ran towards our EZ. i couldn't tell you if he scored or not but i don't think he did. i believe he went out at the 1 or 2, but kept running around the back of the EZ and saw me bring that camera up to snap his picture when he stopped gave me a pose and then underhanded tossed me the football.

i had the camera in one hand and the guy next to me reached over and snatched it out from in front of me. " that was meant for me". he took off up the stairs with it and thats all she wrote.

i got a good picture but to this day my wife says "i told you , you should have put the strap around your neck". .

anyway, that was my best DW moment and won't forget the ball i almost got from him. he was a great DB for the steelers.

 

If I was there and saw it Mac, I woulda tracked his azz down and got your ball back!

 

LOL thanks sarge. heck my boys would have taken it out and played with it anyway. they did with the foulball i caught from R.J.Reynolds at my first pirate game. yes it's gone too. . damn kids. LOL

He was a good solid player for Steelers.

 

You should have taken the guy's picture as he ran away, mac! Then put up Wanted posters all around town. "For stealin' ma' ball"

 

LOL, all i saw was rear end and elbows.

 

Not only a good football player, but very productive citizen. He is a Judge.

 

did he become a judge? I knew he was a lawyer.

 

I believe he is Mac, circuit court judge?

Yes in Pa, matter of fact I believe right here in Allegheny County,
I may also add it must be in the gene pool, if I am not mistaken his son was/is
being highly recruited out of South Fayette HS. Who knows we may still see another Woodruff
in the pro ranks someday.
