Do we really not have a WR #2?

I was not high at all on Roman Wilson going into the draft. Limited production on an elite college offense at Michigan. I felt like he was scrawny and lacked NFL quickness and burst. Nothing about him jumped off the page as being any better than average, and that was at Michigan. So to answer the OP's question, no, Wilson is not a WR2. In fact, he is probably a practice squad player on most other teams. Roman Wilson isn't very good. His ceiling IMO is that of a roster-able player. I predicted before the season Wilson would catch fewer than 10 passes in 2025. He sits at 12 currently, so I wasn't far off.

CA3 is a different story. I loved Austin coming out of Memphis. I was one of the few people that was excited about the pick. I was wrong on this one. Austin is better than Wilson IMO. He would make most other NFL rosters. But his ceiling sits at a WR4. CA3 doesn't run underneath routes well enough to be considered a WR3. He is undersized which hurts him running intermediate stuff. He also lacks football IQ which certainly doesn't help with him being on the field more than he should be.

So the answer to the OP's question is, Yes! The Steelers do have a WR2. His name is DK Metcalf. Trading George Pickens away before the season was beyond stupid. Trading him away for a pick in 2026, and not during the 2025 draft was even more stupid. Pickens was never replaced, and the Steelers are worse off in 2025 than they were in 2024, because Metcalf is nowhere near as good of a player as George Pickens is. The combination of those two guys could have been deadly. Instead we are stuck watching an offense trying to operate with 3 tight ends to cover up the fact that the Steelers don't have any receivers.

Still fuming. Players coach and u unload GP on a Rookie contract.

It was a pretty lonely critique on here for most part but now I appear to be in company and that company is growing.

Common sense is not very common.

It was still not a passing focused offense. They just threw deep off play action a ton (you are correct, having Derrick Henry makes passing easier). Brown and Davis both averaged just over 15 yards per reception. The 2020 Titans were 30th in the league in pass attempts. Tannehill was still able to chuck it deep at that point in his career.

Roman Wilson sort of reminds me of Hines Ward…but I keep waiting for some breakout games from him…I’m kinda shocked it hasn’t happened yet.

Do you want young and fast (Austin) or old, slow and smart (MVS)?

Imagine using Jonnu more than Muth , he should be getting 6-7 receptions a game since they don't have a WR2.

What is a breakout game for WR #2 in Pittsburgh?

WR #1 in the last 5 games is averaging under 50 yards per game. What would you expect from the WR #2 position, when WR #1 can't get over 50 yards?

This is the same story every year. Muth is the talk of the town during the offseason and preseason, but as soon as the regular season starts, he is nowhere to be found.

Just throwing money at Muth and giving him a big contract does not make Muth any better. In answer to Kaboly's question: Muth's blocking skills are why the Steelers continue to refuse to use him.

I think my point is that we could still have a real passing game that could support a 2nd NFL starting caliber WR.

Jonnu isn't good of a blocker either but he out snaps Muth.

Probably take smart at this point. CA3 makes the correct read and goes sideline and the last drive is still going and clock is stopped.

Yes we have a WR2 but we got rid our WR1 in Pickens! He is the best receiver in the NFL. Another great move by our great organization!

I’d like to complain about trading Pickens away, but with our refusal to work the middle of the field it wouldn’t matter anyway.
Three different OC’s and multiple QB’s including Big Ben and still the same result.
There’s no way all these QB’s and OC’s are refusing to use the middle of the field.
How can this not be a Tomlin thing?

    I agree that teams can.

Arthur Smith only did it once. Then has basically spent his entire career trying to make 3-4 TE offense work.

smith just isn’t going to call that offense. MAYBE with a string armed young QB he might think about it.

aside from that he will just keep scheming up TE screens.

If we had DK and Pickens, I'm pretty sure it would be the best WR combo he'd ever had as an OC. And having two good WRs would also help the running game.

Doesn't matter because we decided to take a 3rd next year and a pick swap the year after.

Just frustrated that we made the same major roster construction mistake two years in a row.
