Best kicker in the league why did we not try for a field goal on 4th down????? Yes it would have been over 60 yards but good grief what a joke.

It would have been a 64 or 65 yard field goal. Boswell is the man, but his career long is 60 (and that was in a warm September).

I don’t know what the temperature was, but probably somewhere in the 40s. That would impact distance and probability of making it.

Years ago, I remember hearing that the coaching staff has discussions with their kicker about where they are comfortable in terms of distance (based on pregame work, etc). I imagine Danny Smith and Tomlin knew what was realistic.

Should never have even come down to a FG at this point of the game. So many earlier flub ups. MR is not BR.

Or don't throw short passes in the middle of the field on second and third down with no timeouts .

But it was such a deceptive time to do so when they never do so. You know!

I would think Rodgers would handle that last drive differently.

    I think it would've been a 65 yard attempt, maybe a 25% chance he would've made it.

With Boswell I would have given at least a 50/50 chance of making it. His 59, 60 yard kicks cleared the bar by several yards.

Yes, he possibly would have been horizontal for most of it. Still, his history at Soldier Field has been impressive - much more so than the Steelers dismal record. So...who knows?

Just the agreeable weather in Chicago should have been the reason to try a FG.
Normally you don’t even think about it.

What was more likely? Hitting the 64 yard FG or Mason flubbing the drive? Idk. He's got the leg for it. I would've at least tried.

Boz has a strong leg but I think that's out of his range, Mason just needed to get them 7-8 more yards.

That's not out of his range, his 60 yarder earlier this year just didn't squeak over the goalpost, it cleared the bar by several yards.

That's a big difference of 4 yards they screwed up by throwing those short passes to Austin and Metcalf, probably expecting those guys to get some YAC instead of using the sideline.

I think he has the leg for it. I get that it's long and a lot to ask.... but he pretty consistently clears his long FG's by a good amount. 57-60 yarders are all good by 5-7 yards. It would've had to have been a perfect kick, but that 4th down play was doomed. Based on the replay, it was going to be picked and DK had no shot even if it wasn't tipped. I think we had just as much chance of making the kick than we did getting the first down and spiking it without a procedure penalty.
