I agree that Tomlin has checked out and is basically phoning it in from here out. But he isn't going to quit and just walk away to forfeit the 40 million dollars or thereabouts that he will be paid through the 2027 season. And Rooney would never fire him and eat that much money. More than likely Tomlin just won't have his contract renewed and the Steelers will have a new coaching staff in 2028.

I dont think Tomlin would enjoy losing seasons. If we end up sub 500 i think theres a good chance he asks for a buyout. Rebuilding this team is not in him, hes been here too long riding Ben’s or TJ’s coattails. He's never needed to do it before…

His last year will probably be 2067. Maybe by then the Rooney grandkids will have stepped up and will actually hold coaches accountable.

If they want to get rid of Tomlin before his contract is up they should neuter him. Take away his power.

OC and DC that run the show completely.

Draft/free agency run completely by Khan and Weidl. (I would just make Weidl GM).

Tomlin would probably ask the Steelers to work out a trade by lunchtime.

So in other words it actually makes sense for Tomlin and the Rooney's to work on a trade out of here. It would net him even more $$$ and give him a fresh start. And to be honest, I view this as the least likely scenario. Mutually going their separate ways seems the most likely.

I think a big part of the point I'm making is that I don't think Rooney has the money to buy him out. At least not comfortably. There's a **** ton of money left on his contract.

Look at the Canada situation. He was absolutely terrible and getting paid literally 1/10 of what Tomlin makes. And we only "bought him out" when he had 1/2 a season left on his contract. Even though it was obvious that he wasn't an NFL OC for 1.5 seasons. And it was at a time when we were trying to develop a 1st round pick at QB.

Rooney isn't about setting money on fire to pay people not to work for him.

If not having enough money to buy out Tomlin is the problem I'm sure the Steelers minority owners wouldn't have much trouble scraping it together. Multi billionaire/minority owner Thomas Tull has been calling for Tomlin's firing for years, for example.

Dont have a lot of faith in this girls reporting.

And I think she was the one that ran with the Myles Garrett accusations of Rudolph and had to walk that back.

"It's not a pissed-off locker room anymore, it's almost a locker room of resignation," Fittipaldo said. "It's almost like they realize they can't fix what's going on, or they're unable to fix what's going on. I don't see this getting much better over the last six games of the regular season."

Rooney cant or wont? His net worth is in the billions and Tomlin makes 16 million a year to 27, they cant come to an agreement? I dont think Rooney will initiate this, unless we have a losing record this year and into next season. Then i could see him approach Tomlin on a buyout of the final year, or Tomlin may initiate the process if we have a losing season this year.

Tomlin is not in the business of rebuilding teams, i think thats pretty clear.
