OK, with fantasy football starting up right around the corner, who do you think would be good picks that are on the Steeler's roster? I've been burned so many times because the homer in me ends up taking Steeler players well before they should.

I'd draft none to be starters in fantasy, for sure.
Maybe Heath if he makes a miraculous recovery, or later in draft if he's available.
Let suckers take him early, or, if you have most of your team filled, and he's available, I'd take him as starter even if he misses a game, or two( AND his health is predicted to be good).
I mean, c'mon, it's the TE position, if you don't get the top 2-3 TE's, it's a cr@pshoot, and I'd take a shot on Heath, if recovery is doing well.

    Back-ups:
    Definitely Bell, Ben
Brown, depending on how your draft goes 3rd-5th WR
Sanders 4th -5th WR, his health and dropping balls while running in the wide open field scares me a bit, may be available late, since he's not a
widely known commodity. Will be a boom, or bust pick, later in drafts, or some drunk Steeler fan takes him way too early.
Don't know about Wheaton, I'd definitely take a flyer on him as last WR drafted. But, just don't know yet.

The kicker in Haley's offense. HA!!

I'd take a chance on ben as a back-up......... the steelers' defense would be worth a shot also

I wouldn't touch a Steelers RB as anything more than a 3rd or 4th for two reasons. First off none of them have shown enough to warrant being a starter in FF and secondly Haley's track record of rotating backs.

I don't know much about fantasy football, but Heath oughta be a big sleeper, I'd guess. I had him last year and it paid off big time up until Ben got hurt. I think he was tied for the league lead in TDs among TEs through 8 games or something like that. Considering people are expecting him to be a half-cripple this year, I think he'll be underdrafted.

Ben is a solid 2 QB.
Ill take Bell as a late 2nd early flex (depending on how the draft goes. But I see him going as a persons early 3rd. Remember fantasy is all about how many number 1s you can get on your team. I picked up Alfred morris as my 2nd to last pick. I new he would start.)
Brown early third WR. Once again depending on the draft I may want him as a flex or rotating option.

Heath is solid. I wouldn't take him with top tier TE, he won't have the yards, but I will take him close to another TE and rotate 2 decent TE for the year.

The D. Ohhhhh the D. Maybe, just maybe pick them up on a favorable match. They don't score fantasy points.

Speaking of fantasy I won't be touching marshawn lynch this year. Call it a hunch. Hell be solid but not worth the first round he goes in.

Well as the op said it's right around the corner. Usually they put out all the magazines and stuff with projections. Has anyone seen any projections for our players? Our defense is probably the highest thing drafted every year.

Now that I thought of it. Who would be down for a fantasy draft along this board. I'm thinking 12 maybe 14 deep. If it happens I'd like to throw my name in as in it.

What do you think TTF. I'm sure we have enough here. Plus there is plenty of **** talking anyway.

Now way you are crazy. The D puts up crap numbers. No sacks no ints no special teams nothing comes from them. Brown and Heath. Brown for sure there is only 32 teams and 32 number 1 at each position.

Well in all the magazines and stuff that I see they are usually ranked pretty high. But its been a long time since I've played fantasy though.

Yep and that's the EXACT reason I don't play fantasy. I just like real football. I think it's lame that some dude that doesn't even watch football can do good at fantasy. It's basically just Dungeons and Dragons for jocks. LOL. But to each their own.

There is no one on the Steelers roster that is a consistent point scorer in fantasy football. As some have said Ben and Heath are solid back-ups or if you have a utility player league. The Steelers defense is usually a solid pic because they don't give up a ton of points but with the lack of turnovers the last two years they have been dropping off as the season went on. Wallace was on fire the first two years in fantasy but saw a drop off last season in a feast or famine type of player. One week he would have 100 yds plus and a touch the next three catches for 45 and that's it. I like to join the NFL's online leagues and look for Steeler focused ones because they almost always have some homers in there that draft lots of Steelers. I mean I love the team but they are a good "team" and not good fantasy football players. That's is the way I like it, strong team where no one player is more important than the team.

It takes an anylictic mind to get it. It's not " football" the intangibles are not a factor. But, look at the fantasy leaders and see what team and where they finished. It connects. I hate fantasy because of the detrement that it has on "real football". At the same time. I see it as a game. It's a draft of the best you can get. It's absurd.

It's a game just like real football. It's just a way to quantify the accomplishments that they have achieved.

I get that. I play it too, off and on. I just wish people could keep it separated from the sport of football. Real fans - and much more frighteningly and disappointingly, professional players, coaches, and analysts - seem to mash them together. A guy is only as good as his fantasy numbers. That was always an issue with stats, but it's gotten completely out of control since fantasy football took off. Even you said a little while ago that the Steelers' defense offers nothing. I'm sure you know that in real life that's not true and they are one of the best in the league, but you didn't say it, and a lot of people wouldn't understand, and really do think that our defense sucks.

It also affects the way they cover the games, highlights, etc.

I would be OK w/ Ben as my QB1, if I could get a quality WR, RB and TE first. Fantasy isn't as important as the Steelers winning, but it can be fun and keep you informed about other team's players.

This is exactly the way I feel Snack. I just think it's too invasive in to the world of real football and a lot of the people that I know who play it hardcore aren't grounded in the reality that you can have great fantasy numbers and not be that great of a football player. I think there are a lot of people that think Matt Stafford is a great qb JUST based on fantasy but they don't actually realize that he's getting most of his points because they are just garbage yards. I also HATE the fact that even a NETWORK DEDICATED TO FOOTBALL will have whole shows JUST about fantasy! That's absurd to me but it's that big of a deal and there's certainly a market for it. I just think that the average fantasy fan that I talk to doesn't really know the actual game of football and the truth behind the stats. But that's just the guys that I'm around. I'll put it this way. My wife's stepdad was at our house a few years ago while Monday Night Football was coming on and the Pats were playing and he saw Tom Brady and said "that's my fantasy qb. is he any good"? I seriously almost fell over. LOL! Also a lot of the guys I talk to that only play fantasy only seem to know about the "stars" but when you talk about linemen or something like that they don't really know what you're talking about. I'm not saying they're stupid I'm just saying that I think they are a detriment to the game when the game starts catering to them. I know guys that actually think we are a "dirty" team but the real reason for that is because they don't want us to "hurt" their fantasy stud. One guy that I know is obsessed with fantasy but doesn't even hardly watch actual football. I just don't get that but he can do what he wants. I mean just last weekend I spent $125 for 2 vintage Ninja Turtle figures and I'm sure most people on here would think I'm nuts for that. LOL. To each their own.

When I have played fantasy I had a rule that I would never take a Rat no matter what. I'm a Steeler fan first and foremost and would rather lose with winners than win with losers. I also would never take a Colt either just because I despise that team so badly.

If it's a seasonal league, Ben makes a good backup QB, Heath is good to take if you can get him late, Brown is good to take late if your league awards special teams points and Bell would be good as a very late pick. I wouldn't touch anyone else.

If it's a dynasty league, then Bell and Wheaton should be the top two guys to target, even ahead of Ben and Heath. Ben isn't a fantasy guy and Heath is getting up there in age. Brown doesn't score TD's, so unless your league awards special teams points, he's not a good option to own.
