I would have been happy to see him come here, but not at the price he was going to require. Happy it did not work out for us, seeing how it is working out for SF.

It's not so much that he should be able to control them all. That is a ridiculous expectation. My concern is that it seems as if he doesn't want to put in the effort with the challenging players anymore. He did it successfully in the past. See Antonio Brown's career. Now they want players gone at the first hint of trouble. I'm engaging in a little hyperbole there, but I think the old Tomlin would have done a better job handling Pickens, for example. That he couldn't cost that team an impact player. There is an argument to be made that they would be real contenders in the AFC if they had a receiver of that quality opposite Metcalf. The defense is coming around. Washington is emerging as another weapon, but opponents are taking advantage of the lack of a second starting-quality wide receiver. That's what the Chargers did, and we all saw the ugly results. All of the big boys in the AFC have shown huge flaws. The Steelers have beaten the Colts and Patriots. The Broncos have a great record, but that offense is often a mess. There is an opportunity and the Steelers could have given themselves a puncher's chance at it. They chose to live in their fears of Pickens' behavior because Tomlin either can't or would not try to fix the problem.


I am aware that there is a whole hell of a lot of maybe in what I posted above. Even with Pickens, the Steelers were a long shot to make a real run in the playoffs, but I'd have liked to see them take that shot.

 

Gosh the Steelers seemed to really be close to trading for him before the season. Are they still interested? He seems like trouble.
