On a 3rd down play in the first qtr Watt shifted to the right side. The result was a first down but he never played another snap from his usual left side. I don’t know why they don’t move him around more. On another note. His rouging the passer was a terrible call.

That was a terrible call. It wasn't the only terrible call today, but it was definitely the one that pissed me off the most.

Probably because he doesn't like moving around, he doesn't do anything when he stays on the left side and not being chipped.

The last two times he has faced Mims of the Bengals in plenty of one on one matchups, he has maybe one sack if that.

Actually I think he got a 1/2 sack. Whatever the case Watt has fallen off a cliff since signing that new contract. He used to wreck games and now he doesn’t have the same impact.

I really don’t get the obsession with moving tj. He’s said he’s more comfortable on the left. James Harrison says he belongs on the left. He’s done a lot of great things for us on the left.additionally the few occasions we’ve seen him moved bad things seem to happen. Should we put him inside going up against a guard and center? Giving up roughly 70-80 lbs to both men in a phone booth?Makes no damn sense to me

I know he gets chipped a lot but when he's singled up, he still can't dominate anymore.

Because the thinking is he will face less double and triple teams on the right.

Because tight ends/running backs/fullbacks never go in motion/realign

But will they do that every time Watt moves to the right side?

If their focus is to double team or chip watt then yes

    This is correct
Other players on the DL need to step up
    Why doesn’t the
    Race
    Baiter
Not face as many chips as Watt?

This is hardly a comparison that would hold up to intense scrutiny by itself, but I looked up his performances against the Bengals from 2022 to compare against 2025, and:

    2022: 1.5 sacks | 12 comb | 8 solo | 4 assist | 3 TFL | 2 INT | 2 PD

    2025: 1.0 sacks | 2 comb | 0 solo | 2 assist | 0 TFL | 0 INT | 0 PD

    That doesn't look good.

Do the stats show how fast a qb is/isn’t getting rid of the ball?

Either the teams have figured out how to defend TJ Watt or he has started to meet Father Time this season. Cam Heyward has also been a bit disappointing as well. Moving TJ watt to the opposite side and swapping with Herbig could give him an edge for more pressure. I’d love to see him be dominant again but he hasn’t shown lately that he can be.

Nope. What I referenced was straight box score stats. That's why I said it wouldn't hold up to scrutiny.

Those are the only two possibilities? It couldn’t have anything to do with how fast a qb gets rid of the football? And you want to take a guy that’s average at best setting the edge from rolb and move him to the strong side?

In general, you might be right but not in reference to today's game. Flacco held on to the ball much longer than the first matchup. At least it appeared so. Watt still wasn't getting home. I'm not implying he's washed or anything like that but there were one on one opportunities for Watt and he didn't win them. In the past he did.

Maybe our defensive backs are allowing more quick openings and TJ just doesn't have the same amount of time he used to have. On many plays he looks really close to getting there just as the ball is passed. With a little better coverage, he'd get there (maybe). Some stats geek can probably dig up the time it takes his to get a sack from previous years to this year.

Watt is clearly not the same dominant player this season. Both the eye test and stats back that up. He may not be completely washed but he’s not even close to living up to that monster contract and guess what it won’t be getting any better as he ages.

He started his career over the right side and then moved to the left side and had success and have been there every since. If he had switched to the left side earlier we might have experienced another Steelers dominating lbers tandem of TJ and Deebo!
