Every team had the chance to meet with him and offer an opportunity, and he decided to sign with Pittsburgh. He obviously is on board with the plan. He probably needs time to get in game shape and there's a plan moving forward. Even if another team comes calling, I don't think he signs.

We won't know if he's an upgrade until after he plays... When healthy he is a real upgrade. The question is just going to be whether or not he is healthy. He did his surgery and rehab here apparently, so we should have a good idea on his health.

Only so many opportunities when you live/die with runs and screen passes.

I agree. TBH I'm more excited about how this could impact the next few years than this year. He could be spending the next few weeks just getting his legs back. I think it's doubtful that he makes any difference right away - which is why he isn't even starting on the 53. But, if he does come back to form and show he can play like he once did, then the Steelers could be going into the next several seasons with the young duo of the two Juniors on the outside with Elliott returning, and others like Echols, Ramsey, Dugger, Pierre, Trice, Peppers....there has to be a few guys in there who can step up, and if there are then that can be a solid Dbackfield.

Agreed, this is a "No Lose" situation for the Steelers. 1 Practice Squad roster spot given up, a few thousand dollars for 1 weeks pay, and you get to see him practice with the team. Whats the downside on this Practice Squad player pickup?

Way too many experts declaring victory on signing a former All-Pro CB, and forgetting to mention that he was simply signed to the practice squad for now.

Steelers are signing guys just to help them get those final paychecks or Insurance coverage before they’re done.

I don't think they count practice squad players for Average Age on the Roster. :)

Every Tuesday, teams can designate four players as protected, so they can't be placed on another team's active roster from that day until kickoff.

His PS pay is 17,500 a week. His roster pay is ~46,000 a week. That is a 260% increase on pay. If he is on the Steelers PS and gets a shot at a 53 man roster, I don't see how he does not sign. He has no ties to the Steelers and he would be giving up $100,000 a month on the chance that he might get a spot with the Steelers. I just don't see any player doing that ever.

Lol, chill out. I was asking for clarification on your thinking, not labelling it.

I know your feelings on Pickens. To me, t's not about Rodgers, it's about the offense in general. Dallas throws more, and their WR1 was out for a few games. So of course he got more opportunities. He's had 72 targets as (mostly) the WR2 in Dallas. Our WR1 has 54. Given that Pickens didn't seem happy with his 65 targets through nine games last year, I tend to think he'd be expressing frustration with <54 this season.

As for the Rodgers' performance Sunday, he was missing reads and skying the ball over the heads of guys like Metcalf (6'4") and Jonnu (6'3"). I don't see where having Pickens out there fixes that.

The beginning of your post was unnecessarily confrontational, exactly the sort of thing you have given me a hard time about. I calmly pointed that out. Please don't mislabel my emotional state. Thanks.

You are still missing part of my argument regarding Pickens. Just because the Steelers' offense runs a certain way with Metcalf as their only good receiver does not mean it would run that way if they still had Pickens, too.

Regarding the game against the Chargers, part of the problem was Rodgers feeling pressured. He was actually taking more time than normal to get the ball out, which means receivers weren't getting open quickly enough. The Chargers are very good in coverage, but only having one wide receiver to worry about made their jobs much easier. Pickens would have changed that. Maybe it wouldn't have been enough, but I think it would have changed the dynamic.

I can go along with these as possibilities here, but there's nothing suggest they'd have come to pass (nor that they wanted them to). Smith's offenses, for better or worse, have frequently featured one dynamic receiver.

There have been plenty of examples of Rodgers missing open receivers Sunday. That on top of his lack of accuracy makes for a situation I don't see Pickens' presence rectifying

    Stop.
