Nothing was perfect, but the game plan was pretty solid. One old man IMO lost us that game.
    Rodgers
He played like a scared little school boy. There was many open players, and good plays called, and he missed almost every single one of them in his fear of being hit.
I know he's old, but if he doesn't want to stand in there , and make the plays, he should say so, and we can start someone else. I'm so freaking pissed with this game, and I don't usually let it bother me, but when I see everything working enough for a win, and I see one man stopping it from happening, it's hard to hold what I feel back. Had the whole team looked wrong, I would blame it on play calling, or something, but the plays were there, and seeing the game again made me very mad at Rodgers. Ok, I'm done ranting.
He has to make this up, or say he doesn't want to play.

Im still headscratching about Rodgers fumble in the end zone. He has been in the league long enough to realize that simply falling on that ball accomplished nothing. There were two outcomes possible in that moment the safety or Mack recovers it for a TD. Don't fall on it like you might be able to gain control and get it out of the end zone. Kick/swat that ball out the back of the endzone, the falling on it risked injury.

It's concerning this game was the worst he has looked all season, hoping he can turn it around against the Bengals.

Rodgers got antsy and he should get most of the blame, but he definitely did not have much of a pocket to step and throw in.

I really don't love our offensive line right now.

ARod was off that night. Bad off. I heard a guy on the radio saying he looked like he was 41 out there. I have to disagree. I thought he looked more like a21yr old rookie. His passes were of target the whole game. He made decisions that didn't make sense at times. His head just was not in this game for whatever reason.

I agree AA-Ron was definitely the reason we lost. Defense played good enough but he could not hit anything all night. I imagine he’s fantasizing about retreating into a cave at this point lol

Statistically, it was in the top 5 of his worst career games. That says alot considering he has played in 256 regular season games and 278 total.

A couple things on that play:

    1) I think the pocket was clean enough. He should have climbed it or thru the ball away.
    2) Once he started scrambling he was not cognizant that TF was back there. TF actually knocked the ball loose.

That’s how I saw the play.

    Rodgers played like crap.

With respect to open WRs, I guess the next question is: were his first/second read wide open and he wasn't throwing it to them, or was it 3rd/4th reads?

It it's the 1st/2nd, then he truly sucked like Fields did by refusing to throw the ball, but it it was 3rd/4th reads then the chargers D just whooped AS ass.

This. Chargers knew to put pressure up the middle and collapse the pocket and flush Rodgers out and make him uncomfortable. They have a good pass rush and used it to their advantage on a 42 year old Qb. We didnt have a counter. We couldve run more or used quick dump offs to Warren or quick slant routes to the TE’s…to put it all on 42 year old Rodgers is not really fair. Plus the Steelers knew the risks when they signed him.

That's my sense as well. The first couple of drives looked good and then he fell off the cliff.

Try another QB. If we are going to lose this way try some younger QB who can a least run.

Ah, here's the "I hate Rogers, knew he would fail all along" thread. :)

Rogers did play lousy; that's an undeniable fact.
But watching it a second time should have underscored the blocking was also bad. I have marked down on my score card that out of 31 passing attempts, there were 21 pressures, 8 hits, 3 sacks and 2 picks.
That totals to ~40% of the dropbacks which slips into the "Elite" color coordinated chart of NFL Defensive performances.... 40%!!!! Wow.

Now our defense did put up nearly same against Herbert... we did pound him a lot.
But he is younger and a bigger body guy.

The Chargers allowed us to run for 73 yards on 16 attempts. Which wasn't really good, even though the Steelers seem to be happy with sub 100yard games... (I hate that)
4.6 yds per attempt is pretty decent, and should suggest maybe running the ball more?

Rogers was not clicking.... he is 41 and that was stupidity of our management.

In the long haul, it may all be moot in the scenario where Tomlin calls it a career.
I would prefer assigning Omar to something else, public relations, Salary Cap dude.... anything other than player personnel.
And having a long conversation with Weidl to understand that he could be GM and assume all the power that a real GM should have.
Then hiring a coach who has a vision on a newer and modern system.

Then let them rebuild this team.
It shouldn't be a major rebuild since we have some young pieces in place, but all the old guys go.
None of the current staff remains.
I might even look a Kingsbury as long as he accepts a strong defensive coordinator.

All time leader in QB sacks.

500+ sacks takes its toll eventually. Steelers (and Rodgers) thought they could squeeze out one more season but it doesn't look promising.
And I don't know if there is a polite way to bow out or get benched.

I think we'd all agree that A-A-ron played poorly. Also, letting a 4th string unknown RB gash the defense was embarrasing. Watt's disappearing act was again evident. Not running the ball more when it was working was a coaching failure. OL can't pass protect. OL making drive killing penalties. Boz missed a rare 45 yarder that gave them good field position leading to a chargers FG. 2 dropped INTs. Rodgers stunk but the loss wasnt only on him. The steelers are an old, poorly prepared, poorly coached team that is average at best. The results reflect that. To expect anything more is being overly optimistic, IMO.

His line had nothing to do with the throws he made, and totally missed.

The Defense gave up one td untill the 4th Quarter, and that was basically given to them by Rodgers. He missed threw wide open guys all night, and missed seeing others.

Another one of the OL actually blocking the outside pass rush, and Rodgers running straight in to the pass rush.
