That may be true but a Rooney will always have the last say.

If a franchise level Qb is not available you use the draft to get a receiver and DB help. make a change at DC and O Line coach. Give Howard a shot with Mason as the backup. We are probably going to need to draft a franchise Qb in 26 or the following year.

Depending on how we finish this year, i would make buyout terms for Tomlin if he doesn't leave on his own.

Not a huge coaching poll to pick from this cycle if Tomlin was gone. I'm assuming they'll want to go with a younger guy.

Flores would have to be the front runner. He's 44.
    Maybe Kelvin Sheppard, who's 37.
Also, word is Marcus Freeman could be a candidate to go to the NFL. He's 39.
    All three are defensive guys.

Vance Joseph is a bit old, and Antonio Pierce isn't even coaching right now.

Unsure how me speculating Dan III could be assuming control of the role of team president is merged into this topic.

But since it has become about what I would do,well here yinz go:

First step to getting rid of insanity is to first realize that you've been insane. They can't continue utilizing this same strategy that they have the past 3 years. It's simply not working. And the worst part is there's little development with the guys they have drafted: Broderick (bust trajectory), JPJ (average #1 could be a great #2), Benton (very good rotational piece), Washington (very good #3 TE), Herbig (very nice #3 Edge, and good enough to make Highsmith expendable), Cory Trice (IR specialist), Spencer Anderson (ok backup). I don't that Khan's first draft has been bad, just a tad bit underwhelming. It's fantastic as far as potential depth moving forward and a decent skeleton to build around. I'd grade it a C-. Definitely not the A-/B+ I thought it was in April of 23.

Decline Brods 5th year option (this sucks, but he's on a bust trajectory)
Trade Highsmith (have Sawyer/Herbigshare the edge opposite TJ), Ramsey, Queen, Friermuth
Don't cave into any of Heywards demands and if he retires, so be it.

We need to get younger, faster, and more aggressive on defense.

As far as the offense is concerned. Build around the OL we currently got, and draft IOL early, unless theres a G seeking his 2nd contract that's available. Gotta find us a outside Z to play opposite DK. As far as QB is concerned, gotta get a vet and if we draft one, we draft one, if we don't, we don't. I find restocking this roster with youth is more important than getting a QB.

    Our decline is due to:
No home runs on 1st round picks since 2012 except for watt
Poor choices for assistant coaches who didn’t coach up the draft picks
    No franchise QB

No more Tomlin pressers. Starting in 2026, Terry Bradshaw will do all of the pressers. Pre-game and Post-game. Start with that.

It's fun to talk about, but the reality is not much will change in 2026.

I think AR comes back for another year. The Steelers will trade up for a QB, and then let him sit for a year behind AR.

Other than that the Steelers will make some minor tweaks and run this thing back yet again in search of another non-losing season.

    Wish the Steelers had an owner that took as much interest in the team as this one;

Rooney should pop on a headset once in awhile to listen in on the goings on....

Shazier was a damn good ILB. Terrible bad luck. Wish we still had him. He would be like Farrior was during our SB runs.... leader of the D.

How about no more Defensive Minded Coaches?! Seems to be working well with the likes of Chicago; doubly so after Caleb Williams' disastrous Rookie Campaign. Find the next Offensive Minded Coach, get your QB and start from there.

Daniel Martin Rooney, or Dan III is the future owner to be, but he is only 35-36. He's too young and Art II is ready to pass the torch to him anytime soon.

He has only been with the Steelers full time for 3-4 years.

He is a bit taller and boarder than his dad. ( Art II )

The hard part in evaluating a lot of Khans draft picks is the fact they haven’t had great coaching since being here. You ever notice the bad teams that are consistently bad when they bring in free agents the free agents often disappear or get worse. You’re seeing that happen with Pittsburgh now. Name a recent free agent signing over the last three or four years that has played better for us verse his previous teams. I can name one - Deshon Elliot and it’s a maybe. Maybe Minkah but he regressed his last two seasons here.

we need to foundationally correct and change the coaching here across the board. Talking about players at this point is hopeless when the people and philosophy they are under doesn’t change. The nfl today is all about offense. It’s all about an innovative offensive minded HC and a franchise QB. Those are two things the Steelers do not have at the moment. All the other stuff is nonsense until you fix those two core components. Paying Watt all this money for a third contract was foolish because until we address the other two issues it’s a waste of his time and talent.

‘With that being said some organizations have figured it out or at least got half the scenario right. Minnesota has a QB whisper with their HC. They should have kept Darnold though. Then you look at teams that have taken really productive and talented college QB’s with more than one year of college productivity and married them with an innovative HC or OC. Jared Goff, Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold are all great examples of this.

I think if the Steelers would be honest with themselves they would see that Tomlin and our overall system is part of the problem. I would go get a young offensive minded HC off of Mcvays team and then I would trade for Trevor Lawrence. I would not go get a young hot shot from Mcvays staff to be an OC under Tomlin. First of all a lot of that coaching talent is looking to move up to HC not to a coordinator role on a new team with a smothering HC who could actually stifle their growth. That leads me to what I believe to be true with Tomlin. You can’t bring in young talent because Tomlin is too involved on both offense and defense from a philosophy standpoint which is wrapped around his fears around conservative play, ball control and not turning it over. There is a reason he struggles to get young talent in here from a coaching perspective. He really only could win with tenured assistants whom he didn’t or couldn’t micro manage.

Regarding Lawrence, he was one of the more successful QB’s and more highly touted ones coming out of college in a while. He has been in a bad team just like Mayfield was in Cleveland and Darnold was with the Jets. The team has a whole new coaching staff so they aren’t married to him. He has been pretty average in his career and thus year at Jacksonville. You trade them a 1st and a player or future 2nd that could probably be enough to get him. They then have the draft capital to get one of the top three qb’s this year and start over. I think if you marry Lawrence with the right system he could flourish like the other QB’s.

That is true and I don't trust Tomlin to develop a new QB, but they can't kick the can down the road forever. This team will not be a serious contender, continue to be pretenders, until they fix that position in the draft, because they will only find Dollar Store discount QB's in Free Agency.

Maybe they are waiting for the post-Tomlin era.

I feel the same way you do. Why stick with Tomlin then? Let a new coach come in and draft the QB he wants.

New younger head coach that can spend more time with his players. Right now I get the feeling that Tomlin is just punching the time clock, and no longer puts in the crazy long hours like a new head coach would be doing.

Look up Mike Tomlin in the dictionary... AKA complacency.
Being complacent means feeling so satisfied with oneself or one's current situation that one becomes smug, inactive, and unconcerned about potential dangers or the need for improvement. It is a state of being content to the point of apathy, where you accept the status quo and don't push for better things.
Is it me or does that definition fit Tomlin perfectly. :lollmao:
