I just hope Washington learns to keep his head on a swivel.

That goalline bullet to an open Washington, where he hasn't even turned his head yet pissed me off and you could see Rodgers having to stay stoic (he was miffed at missed easy TD).

Rodgers clearly still has that arm talent. Need our TEs and WRs to get their head out of their hineys and be ready as soon as they make their first route break (turn your head with your body, not half second after..dummies).

To be fair, that needed to be thrown to Metcalf and not Washington. Darnell is a quality enough receiver, but you are asking a lot of him to be a high end receiving TE that you can split out wide and run slants with. It would be great if he could figure it out, but at the same time Metcalf had leverage too and the ball needed to be forced into the #1 WR and have him make the play. If that was Muth it was a catch.... No shade to Darnell, because I think he should be the #1 TE on this team the way it is constructed now... but we need to understand his limitations too.

Who do you think has the higher drop %? Metcalf or Washington?

I would say without looking at stats DK has the higher drop rate, but I could be wrong.

I had the same thought when this happened (admittedly I didn't immediately think of Metcalf given a couple had clanged off his hands recently ;) ) In theory, it was a great play call, but it was the wrong personnel.

It reminded me of the fake punt Tomlin ran from his own 27 against the Bengals last year. Caught everybody off guard, punter made the throw to a wide open receiver - but the receiver was James Pierre, and it bounced right off his hands and fell to the turf.

You are not. Just checked PFR - Metcalf's career drop % is 5.3; Washington's 3.6 (10 this year though!) :lolol:

I thought so, but I was just going by trying to remember the drops by each. I actually believe Washington has pretty nice hands, and I believe the more he gets used to those types of plays ,the better he will get. I'd like to see that play done again.

I'd imagine with his hands catching an NFL football would be like most catching a Nerf ball.

At this moment it is Washington... he's dropped 10% and Metcalf 8.6%. However, that is mostly due to number of targets since Metcalf has been credited with 4 drops and Washington 2. Either way, a 300 lb TE running a slant isn't the recipe for success there. It needs to go to the WR, who had leverage and the opportunity. We pay him 30 million bucks a year to make that play. We pay Washington to block and chip in as a receiver when he can...

Yeah, I understand the personnel decision, since you threaten a fade to Washington if you match him against a corner, but you take a key player to stop the run out wide if its a S or LB. I understand the concept, but it was a lot to ask of Washington. I can't imagine he's seen many slants in his life (if any). We had DK in the slot trying to get a mismatch, and he had the wide field to operate, so they cant just force inside leverage there.... It was a perfect play to go to 4 (and likely for a TD, at worst a first down). I get that Metcalf will have some drops, but you live with it. He's been good enough outside of that to get the call there. Especially on 4th down. Go to the #1. Go let him earn that 30 mill.

Sure, I get that, but it was a pitch and catch touchdown. If you're running a route you get your head turned as soon as your breaking. Being 6'7" doesn't mean he has a turret of a head that take 10 seconds to turn 90 degrees, does it? Just being humorous, but everyone router runner wants to score a TD, if he won't turn his head, get him out of there.

Thats whats called cutting your nose off in spite of your face.

If the Rodgers they got last night is the guy that plays the rest of the season, bringing him back would be suicide.

I'm lost on why Rodgers has one bad game, and y'all act like he's the reason for the entire garbage we've been having the last 5 games.

    Only coaches worth it...... none

    Only players worth it....
    - herbig
    - boz
    - Washington
    - Warren
    - water boy
    - Ramsey at corner

I'm lost on where you think people are acting like that. The comments I've seen lament his performance last night as terrible, because it was.

Having average to above average protection would really help Rodgers too. Particularly if we want him to come back next year IMO

Agree. It goes deeper: this team can't keep applying veteran band-aids at QB and needs to keep drafting QBs until they find a franchise QB.

Rodgers will be washed by season's end. Our head coach and play-calling will never be good enough to compensate for the QB's deficiency, like Shanahan does with the 49ers.

We need a younger QB with young legs, be it Howard or someone in the draft.

Digging up? I thought "y'all" were doing it - or am I mixing up my degrees of "y'all"?
