CBS sports did a feature coaches of the decades and picked Shula their reasoning his perfect season in 1972 and the Dolphins beat the Steelers in the AFC championship game that season in Pittsburgh. I disagree of course I'm biased but 4 Superbowls is better than 2 Superbowls. Shula and the Dolphins really didn't do much the rest of the decade after winning their second Superbowl.

Noll, Landry, Shula, Grant, Madden is what I would say. Noll has twice as many Super Bowls as Shula. How is this a question? The Redskins beat one team with a winning record in that season until the playoffs. They are one of the most overrated teams in history. If they had played the REAL Steel Curtain we would have killed them. Although I wasn't born til ten years after the 72 Fins I still wasn't born yesterday. Maybe I'm wrong though.

There were a lot of great coaches in the 70s, Noll, Shula, Landry, etc., but any list that doesn't have Noll at the top is bogus in my objectively biased opinion.

:bscow: Thats what I think about that list. Noll produced a dynasty, with a defense that the NFL has never seen the likes of again. Sure there were one hit wonders like the Bears and Ravens but never dominated like that season after season.

Noll is the best, I didn't see anyone calling Shula the Emperor

This shouldn't even be in question. It's noll by a landslide. Shula gets coach of the yr. For '72, but it's totally assisine to base an entire decade on one season.

I would have to give the nod to Shula, he picked Marino one of the greatest QBs of all time, while Noll passed him up even when he was right at his front door, seriously though, Super Bowls wins are what all coaches play for and Noll had twice what Shula had, of course its Noll.................Speaking of great QBs, had the pleasure of meeting and talking to Joe Namath yesterday on the flight back home to Florida. What a great person and gentleman, put his hall of fame ball cap on as we left the plane.

Well Grant was the original Marv Levy but since he didn't ever win it I can see why you would say that.

Noll didn't pass on Marino, not by himself anyway, Dan wanted him and was overruled by committee.

I've posted this before, haven't read the book yet but want to. That episode is why we drafted Ben, he didn't want to repeat the same mistake.

With the stupidity of this ranking system, I'm surprised they didn't stick tom Landry at #1 for totally blowing miami out in the super bowl before the perfect season

What were the Steelers before Noll? Squat. What happened when he got there? Arguably the greatest team of all time was formed. Noll was the rare coach that actually helped his team draft instead of hurting it. The Dolphins beat the Steelers in the 1972 Championship game? Okay, I'm convinced. The Dolphins were the better team... in 1972. What about the other 9 years? Stupid.
