Agreed Green was a waste of a pick. But we went and got Ben a new toy in the form of Friermuth while passing on Creed Humphrey, who many considered the top prospect at center. In fact, for five straight years we spent high draft picks on toys for Ben. Muth, Claypool, Johnson, Washington and JuJu. Thats’s 4 seconds and 1 third.

It was crazy Green was anointed the starter as a rookie. They should have at least put a Vet in there and gave him time to develop. That is totally on the coaches.

Ben was just kidding, but sometimes his humor can sting a little. I don't think he is wrong though.

Ben had a point here about the horrendous team building and drafting that killed the late part of his career but it was still a pretty nasty thing to say about Green who was put in a really tough spot in his rookie season.

Ben apparently forgot that the reason we didn't draft a great C (Humphrey) is because we were busy investing high end picks in "play makers" at RB and TE.

And that we drafted him a WR (or pass catcher in PFs case) in the 2nd or 3rd pretty consistently under Colbert (e.g. Freierumth 2021, Claypool 2020, DJ 2019, Washington 2018, Juju 2017, Coates 2015, Archer 2014, Wheaton 2013, etc.).

Perhaps the reason we were able to go out and get a high end UFA WR "for Aaron" has something to do with the salary he's playing under?

Rodgers cap hit is currently 5% of the team's cap.

Ben's cap hits are available here. He was under 5% cap% for his first 4 years in the league. In his last 4 years he averaged over 12%. This is with the pay cut he took in 2021. Before that pay cut, he had the highest cap hit in the league (part of this is because of team restructures).

I don't begrudge Ben (or any player...even Bell) for maximizing their income. I think it's exactly what I would do if I was an NFL player trading life expectancy for cash. (see aside below)

But then I also won't take it too seriously when you then complain about the team not spending on high end UFAs in a year when your cap% was ~ 14%.

If Rodger's cap hit was 14% of the cap, we'd be paying him an extra ~ $28MM. DK's cap hit this year is $11MM. And his cash is $35MM.

In the end, none of this takes away from the magic Ben would produce on the field. But the NFL salary cap means that in every given year salary distributions across the team are a zero sum game.

Aside: It's not surprising that the QBs with the most success in the cap era (Brady and Mahomes) seem to have played most years about 1 elite player below their market value. For example, if Brady plays at his market value, they wouldn't have been able to afford Gilmore in 2017. He made the probowl 3/4 years with the Pats.

Yeah, not a great thing to say about an ex-teammate.. but whatever. He's not wrong. Its not like Kendrick Green wanted to suck (by all accounts he worked really hard and did everything he could to be a good player), he just did. But its his show and what does he care? Its not like him and Green keep in touch or whatever.

I thought it was funny and tongue in cheek. Also I took it as a shot at the front office for giving Rodgers DK and him a guard to play center and wasnt blaming Green for any of that.

Yeah, I can agree with that regarding Green - it wasn't his fault to get drafted and promoted to starting center. But I think the shot fired across the deck of the FO was intentional. And given that he's gone there previously, just let it go.

I think this is why Green says he's taking "strays".

He wasn't the target here. But it is being pointed out that he really sucked as a center (which is true).

I remember the offensive line from our last championship season. Superstars like Darnell Stapleton, Justin Hartwig and Willie Colon. That was one of the worst offensive lines I’ve ever seen, but the defense was so phenomenal and Ben was so clutch, that we got the crown anyway. Colon was better at protecting Ben in a bar bathroom than on a football field. There was a contingent of fans on the old message board who wanted the team to bench Ben to keep him from getting killed.

There was an even larger contingent that wanted him benched because they thought he sucked. The BBB - Bench Ben Brigade. Anyone remember that? Some board names that come to mind are Cardigan Sweater and Ben Hamburger. Those were the days.

I assumed (maybe incorrectly) he was giving a veiled reference to the Canada chaos and his style of non-coaching of the offense.
