The phone rang in Bradshaw’s hotel room, and someone said: “Hey man, how you doing? I’ve gotta flag football game going, and I’d love for you to come play on my team.”

“I was skeptical at first,” admitted Bradshaw. “but there’s that specific way he spoke — it was definitely him. Yep, Elvis Presley. He called up and wanted me to come play football with him. And man, I still think about it today.”

Bradshaw had been in Las Vegas delivering a corporate presentation — something he used to do to make money off-season. Elvis was performing in the city and learned he was in town.

Unfortunately for Bradshaw—who was in the prime of his football career at the time—he had to turn down the invitation to play with Elvis. He’d been a long-time fan of the singer and was particularly fond of Elvis’ gospel music.

“When Elvis called, he told me he liked the way I played and invited me to come play with him, but I had to catch a flight to another city, so I had to turn him down.

“It would have been the story of a lifetime — playing backyard football with Elvis Presley,” continued Bradshaw. “It showed me how much of a football fan he really was, so much that he wanted an NFL player to come and play with him and his buddies.”

Let's face it, Bradshaw would have passed for 6 TD's. Would have been 7 but Elvis left the building.

I loved when Mike Lange said it after a Pen win. Not sure of this but family members tell me his voice is still used at games?? Any of you all Pittsburgh sport guys know if this still goes on??

I haven’t been to Penn’s game in quite a while, but I did love Mike Lang‘s voice in the call of the game
