Ravens look good tonight. It’s going to be an ugly season if this D doesn’t straighten up

Aside from mass benchings of players that are making business decisions out there, I really doubt this is fixable. When the team leader says people are playing with no heart, this is over. If the guys been giving up 30+ and have been showing effort, I'd think they could turn it around/improve. There's everything from miscommunication, schematic flaws, not having enough players on the field for 2 pt conversions, lack of coaching adjustments/unwilling to adjust, players just being washed, poor tackling yada yada. This will be Tomlin's first losing season and they'll be lucky to win 8 games.

Tomlijn can'tr even motivate the team any more, the one thing he had on his resume, is now gone.

He's lost the team since Christmas Day. Guys been making business decisions since. If Sunday is a blowout loss, then I don't see any guaranteed wins left on the schedule.

For those that are interested I tried to look up TA stats with rankings on yards per game, pts allowed per game, etc. . He has an extensive history as a secondary coach so the experience is there FWIW.

This is his resume prior to the Steelers

The positive in that? Rooney can't hide behind the 'the winning record or we made playoffs' excuse for not making major changes. Because that is what it will take.

If we include last season, their bad stretch is at 12 games with 9-10 bad games in that

The Bengals were playing 3D Chess, destroy the Steelers from within. Now we get to experience this.

My son's HS team would have looked good vs this Dolphins team. I agree the Ravens are going to be dangerous again and soon. This was not a measuring stick though.

Austin needs to be getting the same hate mail as Canada got. This defense makes no sense with the personnel we have on the field. We should be faster and much more physical with this level of experience.

    IMHO

The OLBs need to establish containment first. Don’t let RBs run by you because you’re headed to the QB. Don’t let TEs and RBs chip you only to catch a screen and run for 30 yards. Contain first / pressure second.

Secondary, if they are running slants, disrupt them at the line to take away the slant. Pass defense first, run support second.

Stop giving up 14.5 yards on 3rd and 15 and celebrating like it’s a win. They’ll just pick up the first on fourth down.

Those are my immediate three priorities to improve the defense.

Like his process for how he defended the run at the end of the Bengals game instead of the pass. Might be your processing thats the problem, Austin.

The Steelers defense is playing like defenses did years ago. A 3rd and 15 and you hold them to 14 used to be a win for the defense because it was extremely rare for any coach to go for it on first down. Now almost every team (except ours) goes for it on fourth down if it's 4 yards to go or less. But the Steelers mindset hasn't changed they are content with stopping a team a yard short and jog off the field like the other team is going to punt, only have to jog back on and watch the other team go for it and make the first down.

It would be accurate if the middle picture showed the bear in a panic with fingers crossed. That’s how I feel when we force an opponent with a competent QB and OC into 3rd and long.

If you turn into a shot game and take one every time the other team converts you'll feel no more pain by halftime.

They'll have blown by the Steelers in the standings before you know it. Any chance the Steelers had at the division needed them to win the last 2, and show they were a better team than the eye test had them before those two games. Instead, the eye test over the early weeks of the season proved more accurate than the record.
