Probably mentioned elsewhere but just in case, two other moves they made was bringing in Jack Driscoll and they brought camp favorite John Rhys Plumlee back.

Plumlee was brought back as a WR, when he was here before a QB. Interesting.

I think they should be looking at both positions. BTJ is very likely not a realistic option for the simple reason that the Jags are probably not going to move him but I still think they should look to bring in someone. Not MVS, thats a waste of time, someone that would actually make a difference.

Rams just traded for McCreary, have no idea why we arent looking at guys like that. Only cost them a 5th. A good man cover CB, smart player.

I don't have a problem looking around to see what's out there and at what cost. Having Metcalf, BTJ, and one of Austin/Wilson in the slot would make a good receiver room if we eased back on the multiple TE sets.

Yeah, I was a little miffed at the McCreary trade - the Rams even got a sixth back back.

Steelers Nation is another message board that over the years developed a writing team, but I'm not aware any are actual press. They typically take a blurb from a beat writer and spin it. I don't want to call it clickbait until jeh gives us his official ruling.

The New England Patriots’ defense rebuild is in full bloom in Foxborough. Coach Mike Vrabel has officially bid adieu to two of his defenders, a duo once at the leading edge of New England’s persona. And he did so mere hours after inking one of the team’s breakout stars to an enormous new contract.

On Tuesday Night, the Patriots traded defensive end Keion White and sent a seventh-round draft pick in 2026 to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick. But this is not the only roster change Mike Vrabel’s Patriots have made.

New England has also sent their safety Kyle Dugger and a 7th-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who already have Jabrill Peppers, the former Patriots player. In exchange, they acquired a 2026 sixth-round pick. The two players have nearly $65 million worth of deals in total. White’s rookie contract is $7.7 million, while Dugger sits with $58 million. But why this decision?

White, Bill Belichick’s second-round pick in 2023, had five sacks in his second season. But now he has hit rock bottom in terms of playing time in 2025, as Vrabel went with Harold Landry III and K’Lavon Chaisson as his starting edge rushers. He appeared on the field on just 26% of snaps for the defense. He registered 88 tackles, six sacks, 21 quarterback hits, and two forced fumbles in his 38 games with the Patriots.

The Steelers now have two former Patriots safeties in their secondary.

And now he goes to a 49ers roster that requires pass-rushing help, particularly after losing Nick Bosa for the year and losing several edge players to injury. White has one last year remaining on his rookie deal with a $1.8 million base salary in 2026.

For Pittsburgh, the trade for Dugger came at a desperate moment. Two days after allowing Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love to complete 20 straight passes, the Steelers’ struggling secondary needed immediate reinforcement. Through eight weeks, they ranked last in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game (273.3) and near the bottom in defensive efficiency metrics such as EPA (23rd) and success rate (21st).

Whereas Dugger had started 2025’s first two games, playing 100% of defensive snaps. Apart from these two matchups, he played in 44% of defensive snaps, which is his career low. He has made 17 total tackles this year. Overall, he has started 69 games in his career and recorded nine interceptions. For the Steelers, the veteran fills a critical void left by DeShon Elliott’s knee injury to create a defense that emphasizes physical play and communication even more.

Pittsburgh placed Elliott on injured reserve after his knee injury in Week 8. The Steelers had been exploring other options earlier that day, even working out former Bengals safety Vonn Bell before finalizing the deal with New England.

These are all moves that prioritize Vrabel’s commitment to reshaping their roster in the years to come, along with flexibility and scheme-friendly terms.

By shedding $65 million worth of defense talent, New England gets future draft currency and cap room. They placed themselves in positions to be able to extend emerging players who mirror the coach’s hard-sounding rhetoric.

Mike Vrabel’s Patriots on Marcus Jones
While all the headlines were sent to the trades, the Patriots also re-signed one of their most dynamic playmakers to an extension. Corner Marcus Jones signed a three-year, $36 million extension, reports say, to remain in Foxborough through 2028.

The 27-year-old is the leader in the NFL punt return average (21.6 yards per attempt), recording two interceptions this season. He is still one of the Patriots’ most dangerous weapons.

No doubt, Jones has been a big contributor to Vrabel’s 6-2 standing in terms of slot corner and special teams. His game-winning touchdown on an 87-yard punt return versus the Panthers in Week 4 was the epitome of his unique value to the team.

Under Vrabel, the Patriots are fourth in points allowed (18.3) and fourth-tied in turnovers (11), and Jones is the foundation of that achievement. Vrabel is building a Patriots defense on work ethic, physicality, and fate, not name or salary.

I know the NFL is different now, but awhile ago lining up and playing your position consistently was more common than the freewheeling show boaters you see more of today. Notwithstanding, if the Steelers had anybody that showed up to play more than 3 games in a row without attitude or any other excuse, then it would not look so bleak.

Everybody is to blame for lack of effort, bad judgement or being out of position and falling asleep during games. Even Rodgers let his emotions get the best of him against the Bengals when he did not go back to Warren for an easy first down and instead threw a moonball pick. If I was serious about winning I would have benched Warren and put in Gainwell to nip it. If Rodgers is not thinking way ahead, then the offense will not execute.

The defense got off to a great start and has sputtered once the turnovers dried up. What happened? The turnovers were literal substitutes for proper execution on defense by all the FAs the front office picked up in money ball.

Chuck Noll will probably go down as the greatest coach ever of the team. He also had Dan Rooney.

This team is more appropriate for their own episode of Football Follies than the dramatic baritone of John Facenda narrating great plays.

The annual Week 12 meltdown is happening early this year.

This team wouldn't be going anywehre if Rodgers had had a full pre-season. He has no time to do anything as the o-line can't block anyone.

I'd like to see a deep dive on why that is the case...he was a high-level player coming out of college.

We desperately need a mauling guard. Missing out on Quinn Meinerz haunts me ... that guy is a Road Grader.

Given his age and wear, Seumalo is not going to get any better. We need to find a replacement.

Going back the past 30 years, and maybe more, when we had a truly GREAT offense we had one of those guys at Guard.

Guard or Cornerback is probably a better long term investment for the team than a WR.

I don't know how crazy this is, but I just saw a report "online", that the Steelers are shopping Darius Slay. I don't know what his value would be, I think DK Sports keeps saying that Slay is the oldest starting CB in the league right now by 2 years.
