Inside season, if he took over it might be worse.

With most of the posts that I am reading. But none of them are solutions to the problems this team is having. The one and only way to get head offices and HC plus coaching staff is to keep the home stadium empty. If you don’t do that all our posts will be in vane. And I know that is not going to happen. So why post ?? Frustrating

He says he's largely pleased with Austin, but isn't happy where they are right now, so they're just going to keep working. Rooney! Not only does this guy not see the obvious problem that everyone else sees, but he is pleased with Austin. His solution is to do more of it. You have to let Tomlin go. This is ridiculous.

Please for three quarters, but that fourth quarter will get them fired.

    My Solution:

Hire a young HC and bring in an entire new staff. Cater scouting to new philosophy of the coach.

Identify the core of the defense and build around that defense, preferably in the draft. Dead cap sucks, but we'll have to eat it. As for the offense, I think it's on the right track. It just needs a ZWR, a QB and a RG(Anderson may be an internal option here).

Life may suck for a season or two, but the Patriots proven that rebuilds can be quick.

This is all one needs to see to show Tomlin the door, and wish him the best in his future endeavors:

After the Pittsburgh Steelers surrendered at least 30 points for the fourth time in seven games, coach Mike Tomlin defended defensive coordinator Teryl Austin on Tuesday.

Not only did Pittsburgh allow a season-high 360 passing yards, three touchdown strikes and a streak of 20 consecutive completions from Packers quarterback Jordan Love on Sunday, but four consecutive quarterbacks -- Love, Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel and Carson Wentz -- have produced season-high yardage totals against the Steelers.

"I've known Teryl a long time," Tomlin said. "He's very capable. He's very thorough. I've largely been pleased with his work, but certainly he and I are not pleased with where we are right now from a defensive unit perspective, and so we're just going to keep working."

Tomlin also said he's not taking over sole defensive playcalling duties after the 35-25 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night.

"That's not on the table as we sit here today," Tomlin said. "We just got to keep doing what we're doing and do it better."

I don't think I've ever seen the coach of a team that's truly serious about competing for a championship, and has put the kind of pieces in place this one has, be able to talk about failure for as long as this guy has. His lines - we aren't going to make excuses, we've got to do better, etc. - it's all hat and no cattle . He hasn't shown the ability to make transformative changes in over eight years. He's hit his ceiling.

It’s because he’s not held accountable to achieve anything better than average.

I'm as frustrated with ownership as with anyone on the coaching staff. The extensions-in-advance should have stopped a while ago.

My solution to the problem is to just not have/want/desire any hope for SBs now or in the next 5 years. I just get happy/sad on a given sunday if they win or lose.

That way, the deep rooted issues that cannot be solved don't cause any frustration for me anymore. I am just happy if I get to gloat on Mondays at work. If not, oh well, it all resets every single week.

It's a great feeling, in fact, to accept being hopeless! I guess that's how Browns fans cope with their fortunes for so long.

There will never be an empty Steelers stadium nor should there be. It’s a great revenue generator for the city. The Steelers get money no matter what from the NFL agreement with television contracts. In case no one has noticed the Steelers are on National TV 85% of the time. What needs to happen is for the Rooneys to grow tired of accepting mediocrity and grow a pair to tell their coach that they are going in a new direction and wish him the best.

At the risk of this taking on enough mass to generate its own gravitational force and start sucking in the rest of the internet, I'm consolidating the Tomlin and general coaching complaint threads here (I'll deal with specifics like Teryl Austin at another time) to clean things up and avoid redundancy.

Please direct future MT gripes here. There will be many. But together, we shall persevere. ;)

I understand what he's saying, but there's no way that play should've counted. Elliot did poor job in coverage and the ref missed a blatant push-off. I'm the first to say the D needs a better scheme, but that play should've worked in their favor. Receivers are open on a lot of plays, pressure and coverage on early progressions are key on blitzes.

And I would also add the rest of the story to those fans of other teams that it's only 4 seasons with an actual win in the postseason. In his 18 seasons, he missed postseason completely 6 times and was 1 and done 8 times. So that's 14 seasons without a playoff win. People can cherry pick stats to support almost any narrative.

Well, I doubt that happened Butler was promised the job when LeBeau was gone. Then Tomlin is going to screw him over by taking over play calling, Arthur Moats said Tomlin would only make a few calls a game not the entire game BTW.

Bouchette, another long time beat writer (since retired) said when they hired Austin that Tomlin should give up the play calling, I’m guessing thats what probably happened.

If your schemes are flawed, doesnt matter who is calling the plays.

We are going to unleash hell in November, and it will be historical.

That's fine. Like I said, I don't really care who calls the plays as long as they're successful. I don't know why a coach would bring in a coordinator only to have call plays or override what they call, but Tomlin has admitted to doing that at times.

You don't think offensive head coaches over ride their OC sometimes.
