Points are most important, but if you're allowing tons of yards, the opposing team is also likely controlling the TOP, which limits your own offense's opportunities to score points. Bad all around, for sure.

Same GM who was 31-49 in Buffalo....This is crazy that Cowher make the playoffs 6 times in 8 years with 3 AFC title game and a super bowl with him as GM....This is how good Cowher was.....Cowher Power!

Tomlin would never been able to win a playoff game with Neil O'Donnell and beat Belichick, not one,not 2 but 3 times in the same years like Cowher power did in 1994!

Beating Belichick with the Browns isn't much to brag about the Browns is the Browns, Cowher struggled to beat Belichick with the Patriots.

This browns team become the Ravens after that....And Tomlin was still unable to beat Belichick even when Brady was gone and the Pats were horrible

I did a quick google...and sounds like you would still have dead money if the traded player was paid money that didn't hit the cap yet. Spreading out a bonus an example. So even if traded, that money is still counting against the trading teams cap.

The steelers are in bottom 3 in yards per drive, time of possession per drive that the defense are on the field and play per drive....The only reason they are not worst in PPG are because the turnovers the pats had in the red zone and the pathetic Browns offense

Still 25th in point per drive against and you make a great point that the offense have fewer opportunity because of their sorry defense

This is true, however depending on the teams you play…

    1. if you give up a ton of yards but not points eventually the good teams will score tds.

    2. if you’re giving up a ton of yards it usually means the defense is on the field longer. Means less time we can score obviously.

ultimately you’re right about the points, it’s just eventually giving up so many yards can bite you in the end.

Cowboys and Bengals are just as bad. Both of those D's are terrible. Broncos have an average offense and they racked up points. Bengals D made Justin Fields look like Randall Cunninghman circa 1998.

Steve McNair was so special in his prime!

    Underrated!

The steelers still almost beat the titans in 2002 playoffs with Maddox despite the worst defense in the Cowher era

Colin Cowherd is right. Steelers sunk too much money on the D side of the ball and it's coming back to bite them. Invest in QB, LT and #1 WR. Edge rusher and maybe #1 CB are the only defensive positions that should command high dollars. Chiefs invested in their awesome DT and the rest of the D are just fast dudes who get the job done. They will probably win the Super Bowl again.

    >>> Cowherd is a Seattle boy who suffered for the Steelers beating his team for years in the Super Bowl. He has SDS ( Steeler Derangement Syndrome ) and has been through several shrinks.

But is happier and gets his news from NFL insiders. Don't be so sure it is his opinion.

We had the game won and were headed to the AFC title game except the refs called a bogus roughing the kicker penalty on an obvious flop by the Titans kicker Joe Nedney. He admitted after the game that he was never touched. Nedney said he whiffed on the kick and out of panic he just threw himself to the ground to try and draw a penalty and the refs fell for it.

Fan since 1972- felt after watching the Bengals game it was the worst defensive game I had seen the Steelers play although that may have been a recency bias. Packers game- some of that I will give props to Jordan Love who made a few spectacular plays.

This defense reminds me of the teams in 80-81 which had aging stars and young replacements that were not good enough.

Jeff Fisher came within a yard of beating the Rams greatest show on turf in the Superbowl.

Fog bowl. Last game with block numbers, Woodson and Chad Brown. Weird, nightmare game from the start. Offense never could get rolling. Remember it like it was yesterday.

been a Steeler fan since 1962. Even then they were known for their hitting and toughness. This defense has none of that
