Wallace: Tannehill can throw further then Ben

Here I am again, thrust into the Mike Wallace supporter position. Too bad I wasn't around for that locked thread about his tweet.

I'm no Tannehill supporter and I didn't see enough of him (maybe any?) to form any opinion whatsoever. I know he wasn't very good last year and that he was overdrafted, but I also know he was a rookie. But all Mike needs is for the QB to throw him an accurate deep ball, and to try it a couple of times per game. Some QBs are good at throwing deep balls, even if they aren't good QBs. Some QBs stink at being a real quarterback, but can still hit a target from a mile away if they have good protection and a wide open receiver. Ben is kind of the opposite. He's a great quarterback, but often can't hit a wide open receiver more than 30 yards away, even with protection. And we know how his protection has been. IF Tannehill can throw a good deep ball, and if their OC is willing to try, I fully expect Wallace to have more personal success in Miami than he had here last year. Obviously Ben is the better QB and we are the better team, but Ben has always struggled with his deep ball accuracy, and Todd Haley, for all the improvements he made, treated Mike Wallace like he had Hines Ward's skill set, which was just stupid.

I know Mike had a down season with some really ugly moments last year, but it's not like he wasn't getting open. When you're open by 5 yards for an 80 yard TD, you shouldn't need to be Anquan Boldin and outleap and outfight a couple of defenders. As obscenely open as he gets, the quarterback should be able to hit him either in stride or close enough to his stride where some 4.5 CB doesn't catch up to him and knock it away with "closing speed." The whole point of Mike Wallace is to have him create a large open window and get the ball in the window. Our offense couldn't/didn't do that last year.

Also, I don't understand the hate for Mike's comments. He basically said, "Man, this guy can really throw. I think he can throw it a little farther than Ben. He's not Ben, but he'll be a great quarterback someday." Obviously Tannehill ever being great is up in the air right now at best, but what's he supposed to say, "This guy's a bust and we all know it"? Sounds to me like he's being supportive of his quarterback, while simultaneously being respectful to his former team...?

 

Yeah you really should have been here for the Wallace topic that got locked. It was a total riot! LOL.

 

We'll see how that works out. David Klingler and Jim Druckenmiller could throw 80 yards plus and it didn't mean much.
